New Order - Dream Attack

I'm pretty sure that I read many years ago that the lyrics at the start of the song - 'Nothing in this world Can touch the music that I heard When I woke up this morning' are about the song 'Winter in July' by 'Bomb The Bass'. Anyone else remember this?

I quite liked this song back then, now it sounds fuckin' terrible.

I don't bother with it so much these days. First time i ever heard it was, strange as it sounds, on Gary Davies' lunchtime Radio 1 show in early Jan 1989.He previewed a few tracks off Technique a few weeks before it was released.

I never said it was right.It was Bernard Sumner after all who said this in an interview about Technique.
Isn't the track '1963' about a love affair between JFK and Marilyn Monroe. And she died in 1962. So he's not the brightest with facts.

That demo is quite interesting. Cool to see how the idea started out. Changed pretty radically by the end though.

'Winter in July' by BTB is an ace track. Unavailable on iTunes as I was looking for it not that long ago. Which is a bummer.

Winter In July wasn't a bad song.It did make an impression on me when it was around. Dream Attack also a great song, it kind of had a finality feel to it, like it was a great song to end New Order's career. And what a career it had been throughout those heady, halcyon 80s years

EDIT: though the words New Order and Career have never sat comfortably with each other

Given the chronology, it obviously didn't inspire "Dream attack".

BUT I remember that there was an short interview with Bernard in the early 1990s asking him either about his favourite tracks or what he was currently listening to. I think it was in Melody Maker. One of the tracks that he listed was "The air you breathe" by Bomb The Bass, from "Unknown territory", the album from which "Winter in July" also came, which also has Loretta Heywood on vocals. Bernard said he woke up with "The air you breathe" on his alarm clock radio and it sounded so beautiful that he thought he'd died and gone to heaven.

And it is that good. It opens with spooky electronic wind noise, ambient effects, vocal samples from "Blade Runner", beautiful string sounds, and then the groove gets going. There's a rather elegant sample from Depeche Mode's "Waiting for the night" in there somewhere, too. Electronic would have loved to have written a song as atmospheric as that.

I hadn't listed to it for ages until today, but 'Unknown territory' is a fucking great album. Three 'pop' songs sung by Loretta Heywood and a sensational remix by Depth Charge (J. Saul Kane) of the third song "Love so true"; a cool cover of an old Factory release ("Moody" by ESG); and some great instrumentals featuring Doug Wimbish and Keith LeBlanc (Sugarhill Gang/Tackhead etc).

I heard this track on Tomorrows World, on a feature about the technology used to mix tracks 1 and 3 on the cd single. Called RSS, it was supposed to simulate 3d sound from normal stereo speakers.

As it says in the link, the technology was pretty impressive on the programme, but didn't really shine on this track.

It was released on Rhythm King Records in 1991 and I have it here in my hand, having just uploaded it for evaluation purposes.
