Finally came home from the Hollywood show of "Hooky and Friends", the last show on the American tour. Show kicked ass.
The Good - Perry Farrell (Jane's Addiction) showed up unexpectedly for the first encore and sang Transmission. Though he botched it up pretty good, it obviously was off-the-cuff and not rehearsed (as he went back and forth between his normal voice and a faux Curtis voice in the first 20 seconds of singing)... I was just glad to see it, and was he jumping around like a third grader doing jumping jacks. Amazingly Ferrell looks younger and healthier than he did when he was in JA.
Song set blew me away, I was expecting only 10 songs off UP and three encore, instead we got 15 (or 16 I lost count) songs and 4 encore. Amazing how they blew through the whole album, with little to no rest between songs... the drummer must have been worn out. Loved the double bass of Jack and then every so often Hooky... glad as from other reviews I thought Hooky had passed off the bass completely... loved how it gave a harder feel to JD. Hooky pulled it off, not sounding like a JD coverband or botching it up... it had just the right amount of change but sticking with the original. Fucking well done!
The Bad - While the venue was great for playing in, what the fuck was with security afterwards? They pushed everyone out 10 minutes after the band left the stage. Rude arseholes, actually were pushing people with their chests, like a walking wall. Hoped to get a signature/pic with Hooky and buy a drink for Jack, oh well. Doors open at 6pm, band suppose to be up by 7pm, but didn't play until 7:48... caused me to get a parking ticket in the fucked up 2-hour parking of Hollywood. Why is it you always miss the ticket guy by two minutes?
Overall, would do it again in heartbeat. Fucking great show, far exceeded my expectations.
Oh and the only memorable quote from Hooky (but I think he has said this before) "Forgot how it feels to play in fookin' proper band!"
