George Michael covers New Order's 'True Faith' for Comic Relief

George Michael has covered one of New Order's most famous tracks in aid of Comic Relief.

The singer will release a version of the band's 1987 hit 'True Faith' digitally on March 13 (physically a day later) in advance of Red Nose Day on March 18. It is not yet known whether the new version of the song will contain any musical nods to his own track 'Faith'.

Comic Relief founder Richard Curtis commented: "Over the years, George has been the most tremendous supporter of Comic Relief. Out of the blue one year he gave us all the cash from the release of 'As', his single with Mary J. Blige. Then he did a brilliant Little Britain 'Lou and Andy' sketch, which ended with the inevitable insult slung at him: 'I don't like him.'"

"But, most excitingly, he's giving Comic Relief all the money from his new single, 'True Faith'. It's always so moving when people stick with us year after year – and we're thrilled wand delighted about the song, and the wonderful video that goes with it. We promise we’ll use every penny we make from it to save and change lives in Africa and all over the UK."

Additionally, the members of New Order have pledged to donate their royalties from the track's re-release to the charity.

Just to be serious for a moment, I'm afraid our chances of seeing a New Order song at number one, albeit on the back of a charity, are virtually nil. I was confused as to why Comic Relief, who normally choose the current flavour of the month (JLS, Boyzone, Westloife or whoever), would choose on-his-arse George Michael to front their campaign?

And, of course, they havent.

The official Comic Relief single will be released by The Wanted with, presumably, an "hilarious" video chock full of celebs desperate to be associated with this worthy cause.

Which means that Georges unofficial effort could be described as a shameless attempt at recovering some public good will by releasing someone elses song. Wearing a red nose.

Ironically, this makes him no worse than all the other tossers involved in the offical song.

yes, interview with George michael between 8-9 am according to George michael Twitter hooky has sent him a sweet email on the cover.

George cleverly managed to distract his fans with mention of a world tour and new album.

Well, certainly not the worst cover version I've heard, but probably not the best either. I don't mind the arrangement/sound, but the vocoder effect on his voice is not my cup of tea. I like how the tempo is rather slow (I never really expected his version to be a fast dance song), but the vocals....

Radio played the single (between 8am-9am) which is a new slower arrangement with a heavily vocoded vocal (just don't think about Cher when you listen it!).

Not sure if the hardcore fans will like it but the cover version fans may give it a nod in my opinion..?

Your right, he does say that. It's just that nobody makes it's that far in the song to hear it.

George does have lovely manicured eyebrows and eyelashes in that video. Did they distort his face to make it look thinner? It is all kinda fascinatingly odd and unpleasant to watch and listen.

He could have done such a good job with this song, He is so talented and this is the best that he came up with, I think the sound of a toilet flushing with the background of a air conditioner humming sounds better than this crap.
