FAC 33 reissue for Record Store Day 2011

Looks like Rhino will be reissuing a 12" single for "Ceremony" on Record Store Day this year.

It will probably end up having In Between Days by The Cure on the A-side and something by Revenge on the other more like.....

After going through the arduous process of hunting down releases on Record Store day last year I've really fallen out of love with the "idea". Don't get me wrong I love record shops - particularly second hand ones where I netted most of my NO vinyl for pennies - but I tend to agree with the earlier reply that all these "special" releases end up doing is filling the pockets of opportunists rather than ending up in the hands of genuine fans.

I'd wager that most of these "new" FAC 33s will end up on Ebay for £300+ Buy It Nows before close of business on Saturday. The really depressing thing is some fans will obligingly pay through the nose lining the pockets of people who have nothing to do with the band.

So a weak "Yay" for Record Store day; an easy pay day for people with no passion for music.

Or Ebay "powersellers" as they're sometimes known

If those bastards put this to sell on ebay for that price $$$ nothing is more fair than upload it and share with fans

Wondering how long to queue up to make sure I get a copy. Shop opens at 9:30, was thinking on making my way 8ish.

last year, I popped into Piccadilly Records in Manchester about 4pm after the footie to find next to nothing left. people had been queing since 6am for a 10am opening. even limited to 2 items each , they'd stripped the lot out. most of which seemed to go either on ebay for silly money , or squirreled away ,still shrinkwrapped, never to be played. i wager most people buying stuff tomorrow haven't even got a record player (see vinyl revival thread...) an altruistic idea hijacked by knobs yet again.

I havent got a record player these days.

Unfortunately the pursuit of money tends to destroy the integrity of most things.

Hi everybody.

This is my first post on this forum so, hello.

I bought the FAC33 reissue and although I'm not familiar with the original this reissue has a very good sound quality. The outer is as pictured above and the sleeve is plain white paper.

It's really nice quality and I'm very pleased although I think it was quite pricey at £15 or so but it's a nice thing. Sound quality is very very good, considering the quality of the original source of the rehearsal tape.

I had a quick look on the 'bay and while I think it stinks to hoover up all these special collectors reissues and eBay them at least the prices don't look too bad at all if any of you fancy a copy. I'm hanging onto mine!

I also bought the Sonic Youth EP, The Smiths 10" reissue and a copy of the Foo Fighters cover album which I've donated to my brother who is a fan.

While in the queue the chap in front (a student it looked like) got the last Radiohead single. The guy behind me (a bit of an idiot) immediately tried to buy it off him for £40! I was pleased to see he turned him down flat,"err no I don't sell my vinyl once I've bought it..". Good lad!

Anyway the FAC33 reissue I'd recommend if you can find a copy.

So, who is posting an MP3 of the unreleased version of "In A Lonely Place"?! ;-)

Just had mine through today.

I wasn't looking forward to this really. Flogging a dead record shop...!? I miss the record shops but you can't stop progress unfortunately. Like I've said before, anything released after Factory isn't collectable (for me) even if there are 800 only.

The artwork; My misses said 'I'll colour it in!' The content; NO - suberb, although didn't I read on a Rhino press release that this was Ceremony with Gillian Gilbert? No it isn't, it's the first take without Gillian. Interesting to see that some twonk at Rhino has deemed it fitting to add the original groove notations. JD - for obsessives only. There will be some people out there listening to these poor sound quality demos thinking 'Joy Division, not listening to them again they sound shite!'. No information on the cover or labels to fill the newcomer in on any history of the recordings.

Good cause although £15 is excessive.

ok I got up early on Saturday and browsed the list and on a spur of the moment went to leeds with son and daughter to buy vinyl. I did not expect to get the jd/no and it had sold out at the first store, but the second store had a policy of one purchase or so of each item and so i got a copy, then my son bought one as well.

the track is interesting and for 15 quid am happy with it. unfortunately i don't have vinyl recording stuff otherwise I would be happy to share since you can't buy an MP3. if anyone is close by in north yorkshire with the technology, happy to sort...

Got up stupidly early on a Saturday morning to go to Letchworth - some buggers had been queuing outside the shop since 5am...

With people as mad as that, I was never even going to get close to buying a Ceremony 12" or the Art Of Noise 2xLP, etc...

Ah well, won't be bothering with the whole concept next year - it's geared towards ebay...

Copies are now selling for about £20 on ebay .It wasn't really worth folk travelling & queueing up to make £5 profit.

missed the store day on account of catching rays in Egypt,paid £26 for a copy on E bay, which is more than i paid for the whole joy division collection when they were a going concern , now just got to talk mrs 79 into letting me have the record player back in the house.
