My first thought before I even clicked on the link was that Barney and Steve have probably got involved.
IF so this could get interesting and will likely piss all over last years Mani-gate.
I think if it was Steve & Barney, they would have gotten involved a whole lot sooner. this still fucking sucks anyways

Let Hooky invest time and money in the recording process, lining up the release, shooting a video and promotional activity, then block him before he makes any income from it.
Given the volume of public slaggings he's put Bernard's way over the last 5 years, has he not brought this on himself?
Even if there's no malice afore thought, perhaps this has come about as the option of last resort, after all attempts at reason failed.
Do we believe Hooky's shown Steve, Bernard and Debbie the respect of sharing his plans for PIMM before taking any action? gaining their consent? seeking their opinion?. Well do we?. Put yourself in their shoes, how would you feel?
I can't comment much on the legal issues situation...I don't know what happened but while we're on the topic of Hooky....

Of course the article was written with the assumption that it would've been released.
My first thoughts on the EP were that it had to be a good sign that Steve and Barney had given agreement to release a new JD track.
Maybe this did happen, maybe it didn't, maybe this is whats behind the legal shenanigans?
If it's true that Hooky stopped Barney from carrying on with the New Order name it's understandable that Barney would get peeved that Hooky would then go on with a JD release, albiet as "The Light".
Hopefully they can sort it out and let each other get on with being creative under whatever names they want to use.

- you do have a point. now that you mention it I wonder what Debbie thinks about this...
If possible I think perhaps Jack could shed a little light on this. It could be some tedious legal technicality not connected to our heroes and we're all getting fired up over nothing.
An information vacuum will get filled.
I think people read far too much into things these days.
Some of the comments regarding the legal issues are way off the mark.

I bought the Freebass stuff. Maybe legal action stopping this release is really for the best.

Well I would be amazed if there was any contact. Sounds like one or two of other side is playing the legal game, which i can't fault them for doing, although it is sad watching these things played out, when a better option would be to shake hands and fill a few medium size arenas. If Hooky is so skint and worried about his financial future, he really needs to stop burying his legacy.
Don't understand how it's been allowed to get so far, to be blocked now. I assumed that things were cooling off, especially if one of the WFTSC outtakes being released on the June complilation.
Oh well, guess my interview with Hooky and Rowetta will be put back.

If Hooky is worried about his financial legacy, why is he doing so much for charity? And yes, he made a living from doing music now for over 30 years, you expect him to go and work at Harrods or something one day? He was in Joy Division and New Order, co wrote the songs, it's not as though he's in a Beatles or Nirvana extravaganza!

If you have listened to any of Hooky’s interviews; he really didn’t like the way New Order turned their back on Joy Division, and by getting back to JD's music he is paying homage the best way he knows how.
So yes in the current harsh economic climate, him exploring his own musical legacy is a necessity (because he feels it’s something he needs to do and believes in) and not a luxury (because he isn’t breaking the bank with it).
The whole *situation* with the EP should be resolved soon.

I really don't know what Hooky is talking about here. They did an all JD set list at Peel day, they played JD songs all the way through the noughties and Barney was just as engaged in the Control and JD Documentary stuff as anyone else. NO did not ignore their JD roots.

Agreed, although I'm not paying to see them so can't comment on whether they are talented. He is getting paid for his 'homage the best way he knows how'.
I seen to remember from 80's gigs the band very occasionally dropping in a JD track (RFH 1986, Woolwich Coronet 1986, Wembley 1987) when they'd had a good gig or too much excess backstage, but generally all felt uneasy about playing them for years, probably with the desire to forge ahead with a new identity.

I have a few gigs where they played SLC from around 84 or 85, and lmao they completely piffed it to my hilarity. It was a breath of fresh air in the setlist then, as it wasn't "it's the end of the show, cram in LWTUA and Atmosphere" that was seen in the nineties and thousands. Honestly I'll always prefer NO to JD, and it's all down to preference in the end, but it's sad to see NO's falling out is still probably affecting any chances of new material emerging.
All very tawdry. Rather makes me wish I'd attached some Grolsch bottle tops to me shoes and followed this handsome bunch around the country instead....
