Depeche's Dave Gahan covers Love Will Tear Us Apart

I believe the band is his touring band for his solo work although Martin Gore did make an appearance with him

I somehow have even less respect than before for David Gahan after watching that video. Dave is like a cross between a fey lounge singer parody and Ozzy Ozbourne.

I think that is a fine cover. He has a voice that suits the song. The Depeche haters will hate it of course.

Sounds alright to me, nice cover and certainly not as bad as I expected.

I'd rather people just wore a Joy Division T-Shirt and left it at that, though.

Right on Dave, well into it and so is his band, 31 years on and the song still gets respect,,

I quite liked it but I wish no one covered it to be honest, its never going to be as good as the original.

Even though saying that makes me a big hypocrite... I covered it at a show I was playing on the 30th anniversary of Ian's death last year...

Oh ffs.

I still prefer Warsaw's version etc.

The only disappointment here is not to find Dave playing The Crystals "Baa, Be-Bee Ba Baa" notes at the end of his cover.

Wonderful to hear the crowd singing along to a song I've never heard Dave previously compliment on any of his radio/television interviews before.

I'm waiting for the Soundgarden / Death Metal / Grungekiss remix of this tune - that will take me back to 1993 which was the last time Depeche Mode was actually interesting.

Love New Order but nothing compares to Ian Curtis and Joy Division

Well, unpopular as it they are, I actually like Depeche Mode and have seen them live on a number of occasions and really enjoyed their thing. I enjoyed Gahan's performance at these gigs especially.

BUT.......

I've just watched this cover and I didn't like it all. Vocally it is over-emphasised and over-dramatised by Gahan which destroys the beautifully straight-forward honesty of the song. It is cheesy with Gahan's nods and wriggles which are out of place to this classic song.

I don't want people to be bowing their heads and all reverently respectful and that you can't have a good time with LWTUA but Gahan's version seems false and somewhat forced.

To tell you the truth, I really would have liked to like it. But for me, I don't fancy having the feeling of my balls shrinking listening to this cover ever again.
