Anybody know where this was taken from? Also the concept of Bernard shouting the lyrics that were typed in block capitals is hilarious but pretty weird. Does anyone remember this? I thought it was fake to start with!

as i recall it was not because of the way the lyrics were typed it was because he wanted to hear himself over the bass which he said was too loud

Was this the reason for New Order's split up? 
It was probably a factor! Seems pretty childish of Bernard to essentially ruin the song because Hooky's bass was too loud on stage.
Mind you, if Peter did have a tendency towards loud bass on stage (i suspect maybe he did, i could be wrong, sorry Jack!) I understand why Bernard would eventually get pissed off!
Love to know if this was an ongoing issue throughout the years. I suspect maybe it was!

With Ian as lead singer Bernard was offuscated in the band though his musical skills. But when he became New Order's lead singer he thought the band was his and did things like that not only in Portugal with his band mates. Do you remember Round Around the Clock's 84 In a Lonely Place live performance? "Faster Steve, FASTER!"

First off, he had an IEM to hear himself (and foldback), so shouldn't have been a problem on such a big stage, was just spitting the dummy, trying to make a point at Hooky.
Just like 'Sunrise' from 'Pumped full of drugs', where the kick drum was too loud through the foldback, so Barney kicks the mic off it. No kick for a few seconds until the drum technician runs on stage to put it back.
I remember Bernard complaining about Hooky licking his fingers after eating chips in the car in an interview for some magazine, making a point about how you should stop when such small things get in your nerves. It's no wonder the loud bass made him ruin the song.
I'm not saying he's right (he isn't), it's just that it shouldn't be surprising.

It was a typical sarcasm Bernard apology. People don't sing like that when they can't hear themselves on stage.

I for one can't wait for Steve's memoirs. Not only is he by far and away the most grounded and intelligent "surviving member of Joy Division" ('ARF!!!), he's also the funniest and the only one whose memory isn't completely shot to fucking shit. I'm looking forward to many wry observations about what a pair of infantile dickheads his fellow band members were while he and Gillian looked on and bit their tongues....
I was watching 511 yesterday, Bernard says "Does everyone here think Hookys bass is too loud [yesss!]", so it clearly doesn't bother him in such a bad way here I guess he was just having a bad day. We're all allowed to have them y'know. Even rock stars!
It's the essential enigma of Bernard isn't it....he was so obsessed with perfection from everyone and everything else, but he himself often ruined songs through fluffed lines, coming in at the wrong time, botched chords, being off his face, etc, etc....

I remember Bernard saying something such as that he thought that live versions could never really be better than the studio versions...so maybe he could be quite the perfectionist in the studios, but couldn't really be bothered to be like that on stage.
