Madchester England

Around 1990 some band (?) made a cheesy bandwagon Madchester song with a chorus that went 'Manchester, Manchester England. The backbeat was a drum sequence from Round & Round (a loop of a drum pattern from the first minutes of the extended version).

Anyone here that remembers that song? Can you tell me name and artist? My Madchester compilation cd just isn't complete without it.

I remember it. Can't add anything more to that statement I'm afraid.

I seem to remember the band were called "The Times" and the title was either Manchester or Madchester (I think the former). I also remember having a copy of the album which at the time I thought was pretty good. I'm certain the band included Ed Ball, part of many 'Creation Records' bands.

Further to the last post, The Times also covered Blue Monday and released it as a single. It has numerous mixes of Blue Monday in loads of different languages - very cool!

I still have the The Times "Manchester" on CD Single. It was released in 1990 on Creation Records and also features a version of the title track called the "George Best Edit"

I've got it on 12". Only now I look back and these BM mixes remind me very much of the band that is now Air, very chilled and Francais sounding. Wouldn't sound out of place on these rip you off chilled Ibit-za compilations.
