Peter Hook admits forging Ian Curtis's signature

Apologies if this has been posted before, but I just found this article on 'The Guardian' site & thought it was worth sharing etc. Not too impressed with Hooky over this one!...

I think this was talked about a long time ago here.

He was talking about this years ago. I've sat with the brother of a lead singer, talking about how he faked his brothers signature on loads of things. One of the same band looked at a signed poster and said, "Oh! That's one of the fake ones!"

I asked Hooky about this when i interviewed him on the Fac251 pressday,i have the full interview somewhere.

Basically, a guy was pestering the band to sign his copy of An ideal for living at a gig in 1985. The guy kept asking for the singers(ian curtis) autograph even though steve,bernard and hooky had already signed it. The guy wouldnt take no for an answer so hooky took the record off the lad and dissapeared for 5 mins.

Hooky then forges ians signature and gives the lad his record back.

Fast forward a few years to 2010 and the same record complete with hooky's forged signture was for sale at a certain record shop in Mancheester.

Hooky gets chatting to the owner asking how much he paid for the record (i dont know the exact figure but it wasnt cheap) he the tells the owner that ians signature is a forgery and that he forged the sig back in 1985!

Owner goes mad calling hooky allsorts and tells him that he has just paid a fooking fortune for said record!

I dont know if the record was sold or not,maybe its owned by a fellow nooler?

It was 1985 and the guy was asking for Ian Curtis to sign the record? And when Hooky re-appeared with ICs name now squiggled next to the rest of the band he was happy with that? In 1985?

The Guy said to hooky" The singer, i want the singers signature" or words to tht effect,i have the interview on my comp and the audio somewhere. Obviously the kid didnt know fook all about the band,would be interesting to find out who it was.

The record was priced at £450 in 2009/2010 in the record shop though.

Hooky should have just said 'Fuck off lad, he's (Ian's) not alive'.

I'm sure Hooky could buy the rights to Curtis' signature anyway. Must be a few more bob in that.....

Well he bought the rights to Bernard Dicken, then Bernard Albrecht, perhaps he was trying to buy the rights to Bernard Sumner in Brazil!
