Assumingly this is an New Order thread, my vote goes to Morning, Night And Day. Stephen's drums together with Hooky's bass near the end of the track capture the moment perfectly.

Got to agree. Just watched the Taras Shevchenko '81 show this morning and Morris looks like his arms are going to fall off at any moment. The song is fairly repetitive, but damn, his drumming is crazed.
I love the drum intro, fills. and hi hats on True Faith. The drums for that song are almost a song in themselves. Also, Temptation, Transmission, Crystal, and She's Lost Control all have amazing, distinctive drums.
Joy Division-wise I would say Atmosphere; it's got complex but not "wanky prog" fills. Disorder is fairly simple but hypnotic... both brilliant.
For New Order it's got to be Ceremony or Dreams Never End. Anything where Steve's going at the hi-hat like a demented robot and adding subtle other hits here and there. Denial, Age of Consent and Murder are all that category - a master-class of drumming.
Here To Stay? Bit of a disservice to Mr Morris to name a largely computer driven as having the best drums, most of that song's programming innit? Just sounds like a standard issue Chemical Brothers drum machine backing to me. You could easily knock up the basics of that drum pattern on a Roland 808 emulator. Nowt special.
Ok, I gotta sayb this. It's the beat of Heart and Soul that got me into Joy Division in the first place (before throwing Closer LP away I gave it one more chance and accidentally put the B side first).
I also like the simple drum pattern in The Sound of Music. Just perfect.
