Straight from the horse's mouth, no less. I've just got hold of the New Order 1981-89 sheet music book, and interspersed within that are letters and notes from Barney and Hooky. In Barney's own handwriting, it says......

"1963 is the year that J.F.K was S.H.O.T and my theory is that he actually arranged for the gun man, "Lee Harvey Oswald" to shot his wife, Mrs K. so that J.F. could do one with M.Monroe who committed suicide when she found out "Oswald" had hit the wrong target. "Oswald" was later shot by his boss (dont know his name) for doing such a bad job and causing his hit-man business to go bust"

That's indeed Barney's theory on JFK's death. And it's complete bullshit, since Marylin Monroe died in 1962. :D

Yeah, but that was just Barney talking generally about the year 1963, and JFK, not the song. There was an online streamed interview at the time Get Ready was released (I think it may have been printed on this site somewhere afterwards) and a fan emailed in the question about the lyrics to 1963, and Barney just said it's a song from the point of view of a wife, being shot by her partner Johnny, then him going on to get another wife.

The description he gives in that book doesn't marry up with the lyrics, as that would mean JFK shooting his missus, then remarrying, wouldn't it?

Just wish I could remember what site hosted the interview!

It's not bullshit....Ms. Monroe was clairvoyant...or is it clairvoyent??? She had seen that JFK would be hit, and just didn't feel she could handle the pain!!!!

The interviewer was a complete twat. Barney explained "1963" lyrics, saying that is a fictitious story about a man who kills his wife and the guy went "It sounds like an Eminem track to me". Really embarrassing. :nonono:
