I've been doing some epic ranting on facebook of late.
But it has become apparent to me tonight that some people are taking it all a bit seriously. It's just me, it's just me ranting.
My only real issue with the current situation is that I feel that by embracing the current form of the band, I would some how be insulting, and even betraying Hooky.
I know that must sound a bit weird, but his playing really DID change my life, and not just musically.....there are so many things and twists and turns that happened because of music that it ended up affecting my whole life. And it's not just a matter of "oooh I can play real tunes on this thing", it's more about discovering that my instrument WAS an instrument in it's own right, not just the foundation for all the guys who got to have fun playing. It lead me to seek and fall in love with other far more technically competent players....a prime example being Les Claypool, who shared his ethos. And that, in turn, has all but programmed that ethos, that attitude, into me. I'm not a great player, but I could drag a dozen guys I've played with in here and they'll tell you I'm a bass legend...and the reason is....I've been trained to think like one :D Instead of trying to suppress my personal "ticks" when playing, I've used them and built on them....stuff like keeping time with muted notes, or taps on the strings, that's a bad habit, but I've learned to use it, and it's something people point out as making my basslines drive a tune....despite, me not actually being all that good. And one I picked up from the man himself, those crunchy slides to or from the root note in places where any arranger/producer would tell you they were wrong.
I love New Order. I love all Hooky's outside projects, I love The Other Two, and I love SOME of Electronic....and that's weird, because Bernard's melodies and lyrics astound me with New Order....but somehow, I've never been able to latch on to more than 4 or 5 Electronic songs.
I love the fact that they're playing.
I love that they're doing a good thing for a good man (and would like to think Hooky will do something too)
And most of all I love that some of you cunts have had another chance to go rioting in the name of New Order (and BTW, from the clips on youtube, yous were in fine voice).
But something way down inside me wont let me love it because it would feel like back stabbing a "friend" (who wouldn't know me from a martian LOL). The music may take hold a bit and change that as you lot sober up enough to post more on youtube, because the music is what it's really about. But at the minute, it just feels "icky" and a bit wrong somehow, and purely because of the use of the name, if they'd called themselves Sid Halibut and The Sizzling Cods, and played the exact same set, I'd be loving it most likely.
But you's have to remember, I am the master talker of shite, and hyperbole...."I mildly dislike this for personal reasons", just isn't very Cambo now is it?
Spadefuls of salt folks, spadefuls.
Now go liberate Paris!!!!!!!
PS: in my current circumstances, as I mentioned on FB.....If that band had had Hooky, Gillian, Ian and consisted of 27 songs....I still wouldn't be there, so less of the "bitter twat sitting at home sulking about it"....cos I never did that on the last tour, I went to some, and I hung of yous'uns' every word for the ones I couln't go to. I just had to point that out so nobody wastes their time calling me a twat for things I'm NOT being a twat about when there's so much I AM being a twat about that they could be giving me shite for :D
