You can't help but think that. The more we see of Hook's 'personality' coming through the easier it is to understand how wearing he would be to spend a lot of time with. Doubt it's the only factor but it wouldn't help. With Hook always moaning about Bernard's lack of appetite for touring I wonder if he's realised that he's part of the problem? I suspect fucking not.

I never realised till I started work in the City you could actually get hold of the NME on Tuesday nights in the Capital so Londoners always got the drop on the rest of the country for gig news!

Different fanbase then though, wasn't it? Teenage market. You could announce gigs at 2mins notice and people would still show up. How many folk would attend a Woolwich-type gig tonight if they found out about it with 24hrs notice? Next to none, I should imagine, bar a few locals.

Indeed, I'll second all of the above, especially the London headstart with the NME hitting the news stands!

Morrissey's first solo gig on 22nd Dec 1988 was announced via the NME the day before and if I remember correctly the majority of people at the front of the queue were Londoners, which pissed the Mancs off no end!

One off London Gig - December 10th, tickets go on sale on Friday. No Hooky.

The mention of Woolwich Coronet brought back memories...

On the day of the gig I didn't know about it and I live up North between Manchester and Leeds. Went into town on the bus and read NME in WHSmiths - found out about gig!

Caught bus home got home at about 4:00pm. Threw some clothes in rucksack, rang then girlfirend who was living in London to get tickets, caught bus back into town, caught train (2 changes), met girlfriend at Kings Cross then caught train/tube?, plus 5/10 minute walk to venue.

Walked in venue, sat down, New Order came on.

Lol... was my first gig was the Coronet.. £4/4.50 to get in.. found out on the Weds in NME and got the 51 bus to the shithole that is Woolwich. Happy days.

Got the bootleg again off Pete recently and typical Barney sarcasm on it - 'We've never played this part of London before, can't think why'.
