Released December 19th. for £24.99 'Plus Minus' is a Joy Division box-set, which includes ten CD singles. The tracks have been recently remastered and this release marks the 30th anniversary of frontman Ian Curtis' death. The remastering was done digitally, and the recordings have been taken directly from their original master tapes. The singles include two versions of 'Love Will Tear Us Apart'.

Closer (Metal Box) [Box Set]

I have the digital version of this from iTunes. While it sounds good, the Ideal for Living tracks are out of order. "Leaders of Men" is supposed to crossfade into "Failures"

so one year on they release the cd version of the plus minus record box set or in other words they put out the bonus cd that came with it split from 2 cds to 5?

This must be the most stupid release they ever put out. To begin with, Joy Division only released 4 singles, and the various sampler tracks and give aways were NOT singles, more like other tracks. To split a 4-Track-EP on 2 CD-singles and invent one new single with album tracks, is also weird at least. The 10 singles box was an OK item for vinyl collectors who can't/won't afford the original singles, but on CD it's bascially "Substance" with "As You Said" and the 2nd LWTUA for completeness sake.

They just should have released this as a single CD in chronological order (tracks 11-17 from Substance put into the correct order) and maybe a luxury edition with a 12" booklet containing all the original sleeves, like Kraftwerk did with "Catalogue".

Will pass this one.

The only thing that tempts me into buying this is that the original CD promos included with the vinyl boxset were faulty. Although the mastering was OK when the tracks were copied onto CD there were audible faults.

However, just remembering the hellish ordeal of the problems with the original vinyl boxset has made up my mind to give this a wide one.

Waste of resources really.

I just don't see much point in this except to fleece the gullible JD fans - and of course there are many of them - by making them part with their money for such a staggeringly contrived exercise in vanity repackaging.

Pointless, especially when you consider what I said earlier about them never being able to put out Recycle which would have been a far more valued project.

Sometimes you have to wonder which band has had more pointless repackaging and reissuing projects over the last 20 years ....... is it New Order, The Smiths, Joy Division or The Stone Roses??

And it's now getting increasingly hard to see which one of these is the worst.

No, LAST YEAR was the 30th anniversary (of Curtis' death).

This year is the 30th anniversary of Movement, but they didn't give a stuff about that epochal event did they??

It was also the tenth anniversary of Get Ready - but yet again, who gave a monkeys?

If you're The Stone Roses, or more specifically Silvertone Records, then every year is a fucking anniversary, probably.

This is a pointless waste of money. Just when you thought the cssh cow had run dry! If you think this will become a collectors item one day then probably best think again.

I have the impression that some JD fanatics are obsessive about anniversaries ; 'It's been this many years since Ian died'

And then there's the people and record companies that do these things for those sort of fans.

I think as a CD, it's totally pointless breaking up 'An ideal for living' as 2 CD singles???

Could have made one cd, and finally released the 'Ceremony/In a lonely place' as a cd single, seeing as the RSD 12" is long sold out.

I shall definitely be buying its the first JD/NO reissue of recent times that hasn't been a blatant rip off. For a 10 CD singles box set this is the right price. The vinyl issue was in my opinion a rip off at £55 many people here seemed to disagree but I don't think its really become that collectable. Of course the box set is contrived simply because there were only really 2 7" JD singles issued at the time. I have all the other similar box sets by Blur,Clash,Smiths etc and put them in my Sony Jukebox. I can see why people think these are a waste of money but for singles fans who bought the originals these are nice digital replacements. Of course the Holy Grail would be a New Order Set and would trump all my other CD singles box sets hands down.

I'm just surprised that it wasn't released on TWENTY CDs with one track per disc.
