It’s Ian McCulloch here, letting you know about the new solo album project i’m currently working on. I’m in the studio and I feel it’s the same magic in the air as I felt when recording “The Killing Moon” and “Nothing Lasts Forever”, amongst others.

The album will be available through PledgeMusic, who release records (and records,as in my lyrical and melodic records-records, are what they are) in a totally different, exciting, and personal way to anything that i’ve ever experienced before.

I’ll let PledgeMusic tell you the details of the various and infinitely superior services they provide compared to others.

Suffice to say, I’m thrilled about it all again. I just want to say that I can’t wait for the people – you people – to hear these songs and share your feelings about (or Heavens to Murgatroyed, your lack of), and thoughts on them. Because you already know what I think…. “Different Trees”, “Pro Patria Mori” and “Raindrops On The Sun” are the equi-greatest Holy Trinity of songs ever written.

PledgeMusic is a direct-to-fan platform.

You can pre-order Mac’s new album here along with a variety of other items listed on the right hand side – whatever you buy you get the album download with it.

There is a minimum amount of pre-orders that this campaign is working towards and this is depicted as a percentage. Pledger’s orders will not be charged until the campaign reaches 100%.

Once the campaign has reached 100% all credit cards will be charged as normal.

The album download will be made available to all Pledgers at the end of the campaign – 5th March 2012.

Once the campaign has closed all the orders will be fulfilled and posted out.

I just had a better look at the site and there are quite a few artists involved. Most are new but there are some surpising names if you scroll down the "projects" page.

Not much good for new unsigned bands though,i cant imagine many people looking for the signed guitars from "benny murray and the dagenham shit kickers" (made that band up)

If anyone is showing the way for me it's Robin Guthrie,he keeps releasing new music and also does interesting collaborations,he has obviously found a means of funding the recording and releasing of his music on a budget. www.robinguthrie.com

most recording daws like pro tools,cubase and ableton are around the 800 quid mark (even cheaper if downloaded illegally) and apart from paying for instruments and mics which most people have for gigging there is very little extra expense. Mastering costs a bit between 18 quid to 100 depending where you go and if you know a mastering engineer they'll do it for nothing.

its an investment i suppose more than anything else on your musical art.

Mac and Robin collaborated on 4 tracks in 1992. Vibor Blue and Heaven's Gate were on Mac's Mysterio LP but the other two (Ribbons & Chains and Birdy) were relegated to b-side status. Those two tracks were so good that they were reworked and appeared on the (massively underrated) 1999 Bunnymen LP What Are You Going to Do With Your Life?.

Ribbons & Chains = Rust (the lead single) Birdy = Lost on You

I'd love to hear them collaborate again.

you must be under 35. used to be that 8 songs on an LP was just right. and that LP had 9.

still think that way, personally.

cds ruined everything. everyone started adding in what would have been b-sides in the old days, as filler to get to 72 minutes.

Many people may well have overlooked a six track EP/mini-album the Bunnymen brought out in 2000 - titled "Avalanche" (uncanny!!!!) which was an internet-only release on the Gimme Music imprint..... featuring re-recordings of previous songs [studio and live] and one new track (title track).

So WAYGTDWYL is no means their shortest album!

Yep , that was a later reissue adding the last two Electrafixion tracks onto it, as the initial run of the web-only release of the EP was deleted pretty quickly.

There's some interesting versions of them older songs on there though. :nod:

thanks ian, i had been thinking about peter , i would visit his grave this summer ,if i knew where . maybe new order and the bunnymen will be together this summer. after 25 shows all over the place i would still love to hear gods will be gods , or antelope. all the best to you.

Evergreen is much better and it has Les Pattinson on bass of course. He plays bass just on "Fools Like Us" on that album :nod:

Evergreen is superb, and more like traditional Bunnymen. WAYGTDWYL? steers more towards Mac's solo stuff but the songs are among his best.
