Perhaps "Let's Go" was intended as the b side of BLT at some point? And maybe this was carried over by mistake?
When were the "Salvation" tracks recorded anyway? The "Collector's edition" liner notes say the location was "Pluto Studios, Manchester", but nothing about a date. Were they all recorded at the same time? Given that "Skullcrusher" was first performed in March 1984 and TBTHOG didn't appear in the live set until January 1987, it's difficult to guess.
It's entirely possible that "Let's Go" with a rough "nothing for me" vocal was completed before the release of BLT (which was in January 1987 in the US, anyway), isn't it?

I couldn't recall if it had a proper 12" release in the US or not. Anyway, the explanation still stands - it was Gretton being a smartass.

Let's Go is an outtake from the Low-life sessions. It was recorded at that time, and the demo is floating around. The lyrics were re-written and the vocal was re-recorded for Best Of.
The tracks that ended up on Salvation were likely properly recorded in '86 when the band was approached to score Pretty In Pink. When John Hughes decided to go with multiple artists, the tracks probably sat around until they were asked to contribute to Salvation. The one new song is TBTHOG.

There were re-written lyrics for the "Salvation" version too, for some reason scrapped and only resurrected in 1994. My point is, a song with "I don't care" in the lyrics was around in 1986.

The bonus discs aren't curated well - I wouldn't hold them up as any sort of definitive versions.

Bought it at Licorice Pizza in 1986.
I believe Star Records (on Hayes) was where I found the UK version. You probably remember that place.
