Just watched the recent remake of Brighton Rock

Stay with it, I'm not going off topic.

The casting director must have been have been a big Joy Division fan and fancied having a laugh. The opening 15 minutes are basically Sam Riley vs Sean Harris: Ian Curtis versus Ian Curtis. Totally freaked me out.

Then Control's Tony Wilson (Parkinson) makes an appearance. Then 24HrPP's Martin Hannett (Serkis).

I'm sure I also spotted Stephen Morris selling doughnuts on the pier too.

I'm expecting Gretton vs Gretton and Wilson vs Wilson as distinct possibilities in the future.

it got slated when it came out but i watched last night and thought it was quite good.must read the book.

Missed the first few minute, never seen the original all the way through either, enjoyed it though.

I watched this, I had very high hopes but geez, what a crap film it turned out to be.

Terrible film.

One of those films which should never have been remade. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

At least the original was of 'its age'. Trying to ham-fistedly update it by throwing in some mods and rockers just didn't work, especially then trying to couple it with the whole Cafflick guilt thing and how a wife could never give evidence against her hubby.

Might've been relevant in the 1930's, but can't say it worked well in the sixties.

Helen Mirren with redhair though. :love2:

Well, Paddy Considine and Toby Kebbell (Gretton in 24HPP and Control respectively) played brothers in Dead Man's Shoes...not exactly a Vs battle...more a revenge-type thing from memory. Top flick, albeit pretty full-on.

I was very disappointed with this film. I liked the actors, but just thought the story itself was a bit weak.

I absolutely LOATHE pointless remakes of films........ 99 per cent of them are complete cack.

Like some above have said - if it ain't broke, don't fix it and why tamper with perfection in many cases anyway? It's just an excuse to employ the technology and special effects of the day OR to cast a few of the more well-known pretty faces du jour in them OR indeed both.

LIke I said, a pointless waste of money.

What's the betting, that in 2022, we might see a [20th anniversary] remake of 24 Hour Party People....??? Wouldn't put it past these plebs!
