Interesting read, thanks!
(note to everyone wondering, that anecdote about The Perfect Kiss writing is absolute bollocks, it's actually Touched By The Hand of God he's referring to, some three years later)
thanks, good read, it's funny that he had to go through the book to correct things, when he can't remember anyhting him self! also another snippit of the finance argument there.
i like this quote:
How are New Order coping without Peter Hook's bass?
It's hasn't been that difficult. Tom [Chapman]'s doing it and Tom's already done it in Bad Lieutenant. We've got someone else to play his [Hook's] parts, because there's nothing else we can do. He [Hook] said it'll never work, that it'll be Queen without Freddie Mercury…

i like this! :)
We spoke to Johnny Marr recently and he mentioned he'd like to work on new Electronic material. Would you consider writing more Electronic tracks?
- Yes, I'd love to work with Johnny again. I know he's doing solo stuff at the moment.
more songs some day . and eno and new order together. and more from the other two . more with marr. bernard is such a class act. he is interesting ,honest, cool, grounded, hard working , and sacrificing for the integrity of his craft . never underestimate the power of bernard sumner . the future is bernard sumner. oh yeah they are touring all over the place
Re: equipment not working and having to smack it. My cousin told me that when the Emulator crashed they'd smack its metal legs with a lump hammer and it'd reboot.
Ha-ha, everybody needs a bass player.

If I listen to a piece of music before I start writing lyrics, it gives me a mood. My head constructs a series of images and I'll use words to describe those images.
:) That's interesting.
Why don't you like jamming? I've got an analytical brain. It's a tough question. I guess the reality is that if you do stuff with keyboards and electronic beats, you can't really jam. You have to program a beat. So with keyboards it's a different thing. I don't really like jamming, but I realise it has been an important part of what we do. I don't really like eating lettuce, but I realise that it's good for you.

If the Haçienda hadn't existed, perhaps New Order wouldn't have been so successful. It's an impossible question to answer, but we wouldn't have been under so much pressure. There's good things about it and bad things about it. I'm not complaining. I live in a nice house, I've got a nice car and I'm not bitter about it. It was ego that wouldn't let go of it. It was gambling on a horse that couldn't win. To save face, you kept putting money into it.
That's life, I suppose.

Funnily enough, some of the stuff they do today is still pretty cool, would love them to reproduce some of the older stuff without adding fucking flashback and daft designs to em. (Gio Goi not Electronic) :D
