I don't think they are trying to deny him all of the royalties. While Tim pointed out that there was royalties renegotiated, I don't think it's legally possible to deny him all royalties.

There’s a great interview from Gillian Gilbert saying the current New Order bassist, Tom Chapman went to get his amp fixed and they said they had my old amps in stock if he wanted to use them and he said he couldn’t because Bernard would not allow it because it would make the bass too loud which gives you an idea of where the band is at now.’

I got out of the habit of writing because I was so pissed of with way Freebass turned out- no distribution, no deal and no one bought it anyway because people got it for nothing off the internet.

But now I’ve started writing again- I’m doing a soundtrack to the CCTV video footage from the Hacienda party from 1990 and I’m going to release that for the 30th birthday people.

Maybe it was the mediocre quality (overall) not the Internet that killed off Freebass.

Maybe it was the mediocre quality (overall) not the Internet that killed off Freebass.

Does anyone remember the Gillian anecdote about Chappy and the bass amps that Hooky is refering to? That sounds like bullshit to me.

I can't recall any interview in which she says that, although there's so many interviews out there that I don't　remember all of them.

NURSE!! Funny he uses a quote from Gillian to have a dig at Bernard. He seems obsessed and delusional.

The NO bass was always too loud with Hook, so glad this heinous crime was nipped in the bud before TC got a new amp. Hopefully they won't allow TC to bellow randomly down the mic either.

Poor Peter, reduced to always selling things off anniversaries. Has he done the HAC flexi tracks yet?

Not quite true : no one bought the Freebass record because the singer was bloody dreadful.

I find it very hard to believe that new order are trying to deny hooky royalties and even harder to believe that the band would consider using ancient amps in a run of well paid gigs. i also vaguely remember reading an interview about hooky collecting his equipment (could be wrong).

A rare opportunity to hear Hooky speak. Actually I love the Freebass album and hated the EP. I'm hoping he's gonna tour Still and reach Rome again towards the end of the year! Incidentally the soundtrack project's been on the cards for over a year, he first mentioned it in late 2010.

I think the best Freebass track was the one they recorded with Tim Burgess,pity they didn't use him as vocalist on the album.

He could use these interviews to retract some of the nasty things he said about Gillian,having a go at her was something he surely regrets now.

Bass sounded pretty loud to me in AKL.

It's always about the money. Plus I'm sure there are big "fuck you" activities behind the scene from the start from both sides. Hooky pissed Barney off so I'm sure Barney has made sure to piss off Hooky as much as he could, and it has worked extremely well.

I think Hooky exaggerates a bit. Some did download it to see what it was like, but interest was very small. How many reviews did you read? The album was largely ignored. Hooky must have had some idea...

1. He sat on the record for a long time, little interest
2. He issued the CD with an extra instrumental disc... must of had some idea that many would not like the vocalist
3. Quickly abandoned any promotional work or touring, to do the JD tribute.

Without the internet almost nobody would even have heard about the Freebass album.

Yes it was also originally supposed to be New Years Eve 1994-95 which was one of the Haciendas most violent nights I believe.. but now it has changed to circa-1990 footage. Interesting..

Its really really sad. Peter left without telling any Members of NewOrder his leaving. I still remember when Hooky told the press he LEFT and NewOrder had split Barney was saying he hadnt heard anything from Hooky and he needs to chill out. We all remember that right? or is it just me?

But oh no Hooky had decided no more without even talking to NewOrder. He goes on now about Barney only playing AOC to spite him. I remember being at BL gigs and shouting from the top of my voice AOC could it not be Barney is taking it on board from fans. Also Barney didnt want to tour because and he has always stated that he didnt want to do heavy touring whilst his children where young. There older now arent they

It was all a bit disastrous really.

Hooky's done some fantastic stuff outside of New Order I.e. most of Monaco, choice Revenge and the Hybrid/autoKratz guest spots but in my opinion and by comparison the Freebass LP was average and albums ultimately live or die on their quality.

Still, there were a few good tracks on the Freebass EP with the Burgess one being a genuine classic but he should really get back into writing; I'm sure he's got more than a few really good songs left in him.

(P.s. I bought all of the Freebass stuff legitimately.)

I won a free copy of the Freebass double CD on another web site--I guess that makes my copy legitimate too.

I can understand this opinion. I also remember that in 2007, it was Hooky who was saying to the press that New Order had split up, and Bernard and Steve were denying this. That is, it's obvious the 3 of them didn't say 'Let's call it the end of New Order'. Hooky left, and claimed the band had 'split up'.

Also, obviously the band members' children would not be as young compared to 6 to 7 years ago, making it perhaps a little bit more easier to tour.
