Patiently You Wait For Me
You're So Blind
I Thought It Couldn't Be
Then Changed My Mind
Drowning In The Endless Sea
Line All Those Lines
The Traces Of Your Memory
Don't Belong With Mine

I always hear it as:
Patiently You Wait For Me
You're So Blind
I Thought we could have been
Then Changed My Mind
Drowning In The Endless Sea
Blind follows blind
The Traces Of Your Memory
Don't Belong With Mine
I am pretty sure it's "Line all those lines" or "Line all those lies."
I love Special, one of my all time favorite New Order songs and my favorite song on Republic. Really moving, sad lyrics.
And a nice Massive Attack sample at the end of the tune!

It's 'You were so blind'. They are nice lyrics but not a patch on True Faith, Perfect Kiss, WFTSC, 1963 , or most songs off PC&L and Technique. I also think the lyrics on Electronic's Twisted Tenderness album are some of his finest work.

Quality.
Didn't you mean "PERNOD"? ![]()
Republic is my fav NO album, and Special is my fav song on Republic!
I hear it as "line follows line" ie lines of lyrics? drowning in an endless sea of faces, as seen from the stage where the singer is?
Mind you I have some wide of the mark versions of (what I guess are) Barney's lyrics now stuck in my head compared to versions I've read online ![]()
never ever questioned the man's ability to write and sing. bernard adds an undefinable yet undeniably fabulous quality to each song he is part of. no songwriter can or has done more . he has a flair with synths equal to eno , and he plays guitar well. special song from a special lifeform
Another vote for "line follows line", that's how I've heard it for the past 15 years.
I think it's quite good this thread has turned into a general appreciation of "Special" rather than cairns' stirring up his usual weird brand of shit which I'm sure was the original intention ![]()

yea, my respect for the man went OTT when i read that he actually can build synths & amps from scratch...so def a electronic buff as well besides being a creative genius

Here's what I always thought the lyrics are:
Patiently you wait for me You'll survive I thought it couldn't be Then changed my mind Drowning in the endless sea Blind, almost blind The traces of your memory Don't belong with mine
I'd love to know what the correct lyrics are though.

Always heard "You're so blind" there. Which makes sense.

Yes please
Thats the way i heard it and what i first thought,
must be the Glesga version ![]()
Always thought it was 'You were so blind' and 'lie follows lie' meself. No matter, that's still one of the best minutes in NO's catalogue for mine
Checked the lyric sheet in my Japanese copy (those are usually very...creative), but that verse is missing. Had a good listen and:
