i agree with you, mate. i've always liked the tall-haired ones myself. but i warn you, you'll most likely get some cureophobes on this thread!

dunno know their music very well...but that pic is a bit big...might wanna shrink it.

I've typed it before and I will type it again:

The Cure is awesome! On some levels more talented than New Order, and not as interesting on other levels. Any person that can say they love New Order and hates The Cure is confused and condusing to others. I am not saying that they are the exactly the same, but they do have a lot of the same things going for them. I love them both! I have been thinking of completing my Cure collection because my New Order collection is looking pretty good. My Police collection is done and my Echo collection is doing well too, so I think it is time to put some more coin in Robert's pocket.

Yeah, your pic needs to be cut down - just put a caption at the bottom of it that says something like: "Robert - not actual size"

Strange to relate but I actually got into the Cure before i even first listened to New Order (as a fourteen year old fifth former), and then I thought it was New Order who were ripping off the Cure! (please don't shoot me). But my favourite albums of theirs were evntually 17 Seconds, Head On The Door and Disintegration. I can't believe i was only 5 years old when A Forest first came out!

I've always said, If Joy division or New Order had never existed, The Cure would be my favorite band.

yeah, i think i listened to the cure first, as well. and i'm the same age as you, dave, (nearly 28, though!), so i was quite a young lass when i started my new wave phase back in the mid-80s (11 or 12). i didn't think NO were ripping them off, i just thought they were all part of the same music 'thing', with depeche mode, echo, the smiths, and basically anything that came from england that wasn't def leppard. this was after i got over my SERIOUS duran duran 'moment'.:D

I am the ONLY black guy living in south central los angeles that knows who the cure are. I'll be driving down the ghetto streets in my low rider while playing "The Love Cats" really loud while the crips and the bloods would look at me and say "Yo n*gga! What's that bullshit you playin? Turn that shit off 'cuz!" And I'll just reply "Fuck off wanker!!!"

go, isamu! play that cure as loud as you want! i have a black friend from harlem who gets the same sh*t all the time in her neighbourhood. i used to live in harlem, but of course, i'm white, so it's okay for me to listen to NO/the cure, etc. but for tahira...what! that's ridiculous, man. anybody can listen to whatever music they damn well please! :thumb:

I do like the cure, but c'mon guy, this thread is definatly off -topic and your avatar is very obnoxious. SHRINK IT DOWN!!!!! AHH! besides. I'm sure there are cure message boards out there to talk about how much we like the cure. go to one of those or move this topic to the general forum.

I've got an absolutely wonderful photo of 'Mr. Smith' looking even ropier than normal, that was taken at a 'Cure' soundcheck around 1983/84. If I find it, I'll post it ha ha ha ha

I decided that the Cure are a bit too boring and have sold all my original vinyl LPs, 7" & 12" singles and 7 or 8 white label promos. And yes, that's NOTHING I regret...

Got to admit, the Cure don't really stand the test of time.

(Sorry, Wen!)

Hey, if it ain't cool enough for a rassilin' cd, it's not cool enough for me!.....I'm sorry, I don't know what brought that on.

Anywho, I love the Cure. A lot. But I don't spend every waking hour searching for various bootlegs in which Robert styles his hair and Lol Tolhurst is audibly hocking lugies at the others because they laugh when he "plays" keyboards :computer2:. It's JD/NO first and foremost, with Robbie and pals second, or third. Anyway, you get the picture

ok, i'm moving even further off topic here, but mr. hooky's wallet, aren't you that portly guy from fatboy slim's CD cover?

  3. Friday, I'm in love
  4. Lovesong
  5. That awful remix album!

Sorry, it's the truth!

"A Forest", "Let's Go To Bed" and "In Between Days" are very good songs. Half of the singles compilation whose name I've forgotten "Staring At The Sea ?" is good.

Recently though they have not lived up to the standards they set 20 years ago. A bit like the Bunnymen.

In fact Bunnymen's Evergreen is the second best comeback album ever(GR being the number one, o'course!). Flowers is a bit shit, though...

There's 3 or 4 good tracks on Evergreen, true, same as every Bunnymen album. Apart from Flowers.

I have to join Sami on this one. I downloaded a few of their songs mentioned in this thread to see how the band sounds, and they're not that bad. :music: Dunno why some of you say they sound like NO, cuz I don't think they do. Reminds me of how NIN fans complained that Filter sounded just like NIN. (Filter is awesome btw.)

Plus, I don't judge a band based on how successful they were at selling albums. Music is what counts.

To those of you who disagree with me, well... :moon:

ermmm...the Cure used to be good...haven't managed to convince myself to pick up any of their material released after 1987...Kiss Me 3X was the end of the line (for me)...

and actually, some of my venom towards the cure goes back to high school...kids trying to be cool by wearing cure shirts...dressing in all black...boys wearing makeup...it was anarchy...anarchy I tell you...that must be the cause of my intense hatred of them...come to think of it...this all started my next to last year of high school...rat bastards (the kids, not the cure)...

oh well...I did buy the peel session from 1978...

and I still do like Jumping Someone Else's Train...it's a great toon...IMHO...

What I hate is people who see one band or artist as being the be-all and end-all of music, and a lot of rabid Cure fans seem that way (by "rabid" I mean pasty brats always dressed in black who hover around their own seperate table at lunch, trying to defeat one another at a spirited card game of "Magic: The Gathering" and who always cringe when a jock walks by). It's like Morrissey: Love the music, hate the fans.....

Funny, but true - don't forget that there are plenty of NO fans that are just as Rabid for them - they don't paint their faces, but they sit in class puttin' back Pernod like M&M's, then they pass out, fall out of their desks, and then vomit on your shoes... talk about Anarchy.

People need to remain broad and open in their musical tastes. I love many different bands, and I have many favorites. U2, New Order, Joy Division, OMD, The Cure, Depeche Mode, They Might Be Giants, Art Of Noise - they are all good. Don't listen to one or two albums by a 20 year old band and start making blanket generalizations. Look at how The Cure and New Order and U2 have drastically changed their sound over time.

I don't really care how the fans of a certain music group act. I don't try to be the bands that I listen to; I try to be myself, period. This is what I think has been a major problem with music in general: if you dress like a homey, you're into rap. If you dress like a grunge bag, you're into alternative. If you dress all in black, you're into heavy metal or whatever. I don't see music as a fashion show. That's why my musical tastes span a wide variety of genres. And if people think its strange, or that I'm trying to be a wannabe, then this to them: :finger: . It's my money that I'm using to pay for the album.

That's why I don't participate in musical band wars.

i went to a siouxsie & the banshees concert back in high school and EVERY girl there looked like siouxsie and EVERY guy looked like robert smith except for my friends and i. we got all these weird looks, and could barely see the band over all the high hair. gee, god forbid we should be into a band and not dress a certain way. conundrum: if everyone was dressing to be 'different', wouldn't that make them all anything BUT unique? and so much lipstick, so much lipstick.

What can I say mate? the Cure was the main reason why I decied to learn English eventhough it was such a hard thing to do, specially cuz I've never been to any English country and besides I was not in a private school (which makes it harder in a country like mine). There are also some big reasons...

...to love The Cure

Robert Smith and his lyrics and music Bowie says so The great cover of Love will tear us apartThe elegance and sarcasm

Disintegration is a great song. :music: Thanks to whoever recommended it.
