WARNING: shite irrelevant radio station don't like New Order....Bad news for New Order's standing in the UK

Last month UK broadcasting station Absolute Radio began a poll to find the UK's favourite 100 classic albums of all-time.

They made a shortlist of eighty albums which they uploaded onto their web page for those with a free Absolute account, though anyone could nominate another album if it didn't appear on the eighty shortlist.

They then collated the votes and today announced the Top 100.

New Order's Technique was one of those on the eighty-strong shortlist. I didn't hear any New Order in the two-day broadcast, or if they did, it didn't appear on the website play review.

This doesn't surprise me as much as it might some, as before Waiting For The Sirens' Call New Order to me had been a singles band.

Here is the top twenty:

I agree.

(1) Absolute Radio is a mainstream rock station posing as a cool alternative staion (which it ain't).

(2) They have a very narrow view of music, concentrating almost entirely on rock. For example "Kind Of Blue" by Miles Davis isn't just the greatest jazz album of all time, it is one of the great music albums full stop....... but it never gets into the top ten of any of these polls (sometimes appears somewhere much lower down), coz the people who put them together only listen to Radiohead, Pink Floyd, Oasis etc etc (all fine bands, but there is a lot more stuff out there they should be listening to also).

(3) How the fuck Keane makes any list other than Top Ten Pointless Commercial Bland Shite Masquerading As "Indie" (Whatever That Means These Days) Albums For David Cameron To Whistle Along To, is absolutely beyond me.

Nope. No honourable exceptions. Especially not that. I've listened to/been made to listen all of them. I own 8 of them on LP/CD (including London Calling AND Hopes & Fears!). Would happily never listen to any of them again though. And I have NEVER owned anything by either Pink Floyd or Oasis. Perish the thought.

New Order have made at least 3 of the all time great albums so I don't consider them a singles band, DM to me are a classic singles band.

They have Absolute crap Radio on at work sometimes. It's all Stereophonics, Guns n Roses, Keane drivel hosted seemingly nearly all the time by this smug, irritating twat DJ called "Jonno" or something.The station thinks it's ultra cool and cutting edge.

They used to be Virgin Radio. Chris Evans was heavily involved with them as Breakfast DJ and shareholder after he left Radio 1.

Every Radio station has it's own style. So their listeners will reflect that in what they vote for. Personally i think Absolute are a hell of a lot better than Capital Radio... but not nearly as good as XFM.

JD/NO are more likely to appear in an Xfm poll, but that doesn't mean other decent artists wouldnt be ignored even by Xfm's broadminded listnership.

These things are really just an excuse to have a countdown on a bank holiday weekend, and not to be taken too seriously.

BBC 6music is better than both of them.... and no adverts! Otherwise, there's a whole world of internet based radio stations that are better than the UK's commerical stations.

Nah, I think it's more a thing about having standards. Music means a great deal to some people (me included) and when media outlets in positions of power (big commerical music stations, music/rock magazines etc) overlook really important acts, it's kinda annoying and worrying because younger generations who are learning about music could miss out on a whole raft of brilliant music and end up listening to Snow Patrol etc. This leads to a vicious circle: Magazines/radio recommends crap > customers buy crap > magazines and radio feature more of what people are buying.... and record labels will focus more on those acts. Then what will we have to listen to?

Not all the stuff on the list was bad - there were some very good albums on there, but also several travesties and many glaring omissions.

I am surprised Pet shop boys "VERY" is not there, that is a classic album.
