Poorly judged comments about the other band members aside you've got to hand it to him... JD & NO have never been promoted so much as now. Manchester probably won't look after him in his retirement so he seems to be unashamedly giving it his best shot. In a strange way the others will also benefit from the relentless plugging.

I noticed that there was virtually a whole box load of BadLieutenant (Never Poop Another Turd) CDs going for £2 at Fopp today and yet no one paid the slightest bit interest.
Also saw 2 copies of Permanent and Best of New Order.....again, no takers....
I wonder why?
Presumably their stock has really sunk to an all time low as a result of the pathetic tit for tat going on around the split even to this day - not to mention the fiasco surrounding the continued with-holding of Lost Sirens from general release [at this rate it will be 2018 before it comes out]...?

Did you see many other independant label CDs released in 2009 going at full price? 
Also, does that fact that you didn't actually witness anybody buying it ( or Permanant, or The Best of..) at the exact moment you were there mean much?
And, apart from all this, has there ever been a correlation between the quality of music and its popularity...?

It's slightly ludicrous to base a pop group's popularity on how many people you personally witness buying CDs at a specific time in a record shop. Here's an idea, maybe they sold some after you left? Or even, before?
The average punter who would buy Permanent or The Best Of New Order is not a hardcore fan and would probably have no knowledge of current band arguments or "Lost Sirens". They've maybe heard a NO single on the radio and fancy hearing more and The Best Of is the cheap and efficient way to get exposure.
Plus I agree with CTB, sales do not equal quality. The Velvet Underground are one of the most influential bands ever and they sold sweet F.A. in their homeland. Even to this day.

I presume that Fopp is one of those shops that has stacks of cheap cd's,dvd's book's etc on offer and I would take that fact that NO cds are for sale there for £2 as a pretty bad sign alright,it suggests that there are stacks of unsold NO cd's lying around in warehouses and that is why they end up in places like Fopp on special offer. And when Sirens does eventually come out it will probably be the worst selling New Order release ever, How do you market an album of rejects from a previous release that didn't exactly sell in large quantities in the first place.. I don't think their lack of commercial appeal has anything to do with the feud though.
Fopp often buys huge chunks of stock from closed chains (such as Virgin), and unsold supermarket stock that it tries to dump to the market 6-12 months after release at low prices. It's target is £50-Man, who goes in on payday and spends £50 on cheap back catalogue. I wouldn't be too bothered about a stack of Bad Loot elpees in there. Besides which, if you've waited 3 years to buy it, £2 is probably the amount of money you'll want to pay.

It's not like New Order CDs are the only ones at £2, lots of other bands (some big names) are also in the bargain bins. As is common knowledge CD as a medium is having a pretty rough time and probably staring at annihilation in the next few years.
I'm not surprised Permanent and The Best Of New Order are in the sale section. They're 17 year old compilations which are dirt cheap for the record company to produce. The newer releases from the past few years such as the +- boxset and (corrected) remasters are still selling at relatively normal prices.

Unlike most of the articles announcing New Order gigs over the last few months, none of the Festival No. 6 appearance announcements mention Hooky's absence.
Is this no longer news, or has the current lineup proven themselves as greater than the sum of the (missing) parts?

I was reading an interview with Bernard Sumner slagging me off saying I was dragging him away from his kids. That’s such a load of crap. I enjoyed playing and I always thought the perfect expression of the music was when you played it live, the most important thing. That, for me, has never changed. Barney didn’t like playing live, touring. To him the perfect expression was in the studio. So it was a very healthy discussion.
I don't remember Bernard actually slagging Hooky off and blaming him for touring/not being with family because of touring in any interview....

And not a trace of irony with that comment.
There is a feature on page 48 of this months Uncut which consists of Hooky commenting on photos from throughout his career,I quickly read it in a newsagents so I may be slightly mistaken but if I remember correctly the most interesting comment he made on it was when he said that in 1985 Rob Gretton had a breakdown and that it was at that point that Bernard assumed control of the band.

There is an interview in a music magazine which is published in Ireland called "Hot Press" this week, the interview is titled "Peter Hook on Joy Division" and makes reference to the upcoming memoir but the split also is covered and there are some quotes there which are a little undiplomatic towards his one time friends...
If part of the reason for New Order playing so many gigs this year is to piss Hooky off then it's working

Presumably recorded at either a music conference/weekender or festival. Amusing to see Hook giving the interview crouched down next to a car in a car park. Sounds like it was recorded around '05 or '06. Contrary to previous suggestions on here that the boat/nautical theme for the front of Sirens was scrapped due to the Asian Tsunami, it sounds like Hooky is saying that Bernard wanted it but Hooky didn't. The compromise presumably being the images inside the booklet. And it ends with the famous last words: You have to be forgiving...
"We have seven songs left over, I really would like to get another album out straight away". Ah yes, there was an idea. He didn't like Stuart Price much. So I'm guessing he wouldnt be too keen on the current version of 586 then.
