Tough one actually. I rate WFTSC the song. Procession is class early NO though.

More inclined to stick Procession on these days though so that gets my vote

Agree with Johnny again... WFTSC is one of their better later efforts, but Procession (particularly Glasto 81 offering) is genius...

Procession is a propulsive, inspired track that no other band could have come up with.

Waiting for the Sirens' Call, however, is even more lovely to me. It certainly is a much more elegantly crafted song, which may put off some old timers. While they surely all contributed, I see it as the swan song of the Barney/Hooky partnership*.

Not that kind of shed!

Not a fan of WFTSC (great lyrics, but not so great vox and the synth sounded dated back then), so anything opposing it would get my vote.

IMO of course.

This one is almost a dead heat for me, but I voted for Procession because that's my mood for the moment.

Well, the legend of the Lorelei only had one siren sat in waiting on the rock, so I'm taking it as the call of the siren, rather than the call of multiple sirens. No doubt this was covered in rather extravagant detail a few years back when the site wasn't full of fake pisspoor etc. Or was it? Maybe we missed letting No Holiday take on Isamu etc!

This is the absolute toughest one of all for me. I've always loved Procession, never tired of it, and it's always been a favourite to play live as well, just an immense song.

WFTSC, though, took me somewhere else with my NO appreciation. Several songs over the years have had beauteous arrangements, the simplicity of KW1, the strings on All Day Long, the melodies on Gillian's Dream Attack, but WFTSC is the only one that marries a beautiful melody with words that do it justice, and it's this that I see as Bernard's true masterpiece.

Err, the Sirens' (plural) thing is about Odysseus, isn't it? Quite the same story about one girl (Lorelei) or a few girls (sirens) singing and men losing their heads about that and hitting the rocks with their ships.

Criminally under-rated song

I think that WFTSC is one of New Order's greatest songs, the recorded version is epic, huge swaths of synth symphonies, beautiful basslines from Hooky, tight drumming from Steve, and some of Bernard's very best,most eloquent and heartfelt lyrics and vocals.

I never liked how they did it live though, with all of the gorgeous synth stuff on the backing track and Phil playing three chord garage guitar instead of live keyboards.

WFTSC is alright I suppose... prefer the remixed version on the single.

Procession wins, can't explain why, just something about it I love.
