St. Etienne/ New Order

Radiohead have been named the new New Order on several occasions by other most honourable members of this Forum. It has been pointed out the sense of risk and experimentalism they add to waht they do. Not arguing with this I reckon that the band most similar to New Order, not in style but in their approach to music is nowadays St. Etienne. Testament to that would be the great number of NOOLiners who are also keen on St. Etienne (Lovely Sarah may have something to do with that, though  )

Discuss.

Sounds about right to me. Anyone remember Rialto? They had the same Hooky style bass playing with a guy on vocals who sounded exactly like Jarvis Cocker.

I'm not sure that St.Etienne take loads of drugs, forget songs halfway through, fall over drunk on stage and all that to be honest. Making predominantly synth-based pop music is their forte.

Both bands have singers who could be described as f*t though (insert vowel where appropriate :))

Eastwind, although I do agree with what Molly Ringwald has written elsewhere (namely that Barney is not that chubby) I would not call him FIT.

And I must take exception to your calling Ms. Bracknell FAT. :nono:

You, sir, will be hearing from my seconds!

St. Entwhistle sound nothing like NO.

Motorhead are more similar.

Not sure I know any Ms Bracknells, apart from the lemon Zoe in Emmerdale. Sarah Cracknell, with a B (sorry, can't say the letter B, being a silly bunt) most defnitely isn't fat :)

Is your profile picture Denholm Elliot?

Sorry Denholm, it was a silly in joke, originally I misspelled the name in my profile (I must have been thinking of "The importance of being Ernest") and was told off by a lady (Liv? Snucker? Kez-Bah of the beautiful eyes most possibly). I have always misspelled it since. Confusion 12".

Huntsy, I am talking about their general attitude towards music and musicmaking, not their music per se. Motorhead are a great band, though. So subtle and atmospheric.

I liked one St. song, 'your in a bad mood' or something.

Zero comparisons drawn.

Cannot comment further.

Must rest.

Saint Etienne, Saint Etienne... Well here's a true story: I had "Foxbase Alpha" (great title) but I lost it in a car crash! Since that fateful day, I lost interest on the Etienne unit... but I still find Miss Cracknell absolutely amazing!

Huber! You old smoothie  Wasn't me who told you off anyway...at least I don't think it was - my memory's not what it was....

I had a ticket to see Saint Etienne in London next week, but alas, cannot make it. Hopefully see them here in Manchester on Sunday night. Anyone heard the new album yet? If so, would you like to share your thoughts?! :)

Pray smoker, what's a Moonbeast? and where can I send him hate mail?

Hi Kez :hi:

I have not heard it yet but a mate who has says it's brilliant.

God, just don't tell my dad about that one - Chaka Khan is second only to Diana Ross in his lust stakes. Must have a thing about wide hair.....

... I think you'll find your father's stimulus resides slightly below the Chaka hairline ... the only human commodity that can be seen from outer space.

You father has exquisite taste (apart from Diana Moss Gatherer ... a veritable stick whittler).

Hmm, I don't know if you've noticed, but Diana these days, although still painfully thin elsewhere, has a fine pair of what's known as 'back-boobs', a nice fatty deposit around her mid-back. Dad still loves her though :nonono:

No, but going to the London gig next Thursday, as is Mr Disco.

Why are they playing the Royal Festival Hall? trying to get all sophisticated & posh on us, won't work.

Haven't made any plans yet, but I'm sure we'll be able to sneak a couple in beforehand.

Wow, that's quite a claim to fame. As a fan of Chaka's work (I Feel for You was the first 12" I ever bought as a nipper), I'm rather impressed by this connection.

Don't want to be encouraging dad though - he's not as young as he used to be
