Gillian's Side of the Stage

This has been bothering me, God knows why..

I don't like that Gillian is stage left, where Hooky sort of used to be and where Jake stood in Bad Lieutenant. I think she should be standing stage right, where she originally stood, and where Phil is now.

Why? Because when looking left to right, I always likes seeing Gillian first, as Gillian plays all of the lead synth parts, and I like to imagine that her side of the stage is where all of the electronic sounds and technology during New Order live come from.

Also, I like her being over there because she is close to Steve when he is playing keyboards. Especially in the old days, I like how stage right was where all of the tech stuff was.

Obviously, Phil stood on Gillian's side when he took her place onstage, but now that she is Back, I feel that Gillian should be stage right in her rightful place, with Phil over by Tom. Also, this way, photographers and people filming the show would miss Gillian less.

Why do I think this? Who knows.

Also, I miss Steve playing a proper synth on BM, BLT, and TPK. What is that dinky thing he is playing now?

I think maybe Gillian being where Hooky used to be kind of legitimises it a bit more... I mean an original member replacing an original member at that side of the stage... If Phil was stood there it would be kind of like, oh, Hooky's been replaced with a hired stage hand. With Gillian there it's not like that

It isn't possible to have Gillian on the left side of the stage. Because a very important part of the show is that Phil throws lingerie onto the microphone stand when Bernhard is dancing with the microphone in his hand on the right side of the stage. It wouldn't look funny if Gillian would do that. :D

Its so long since I was at a gig, or even watched one of my dvds, that I have little clue where where they stand, apart from the stage of course, or if they have normal places where they stand. If Gillian is stage left and you look left to right you would see her first? And why is someone on the left filmed less? But anyways I'm bumping this above the spam.

I've often laid awake at night pondering over which side of the stage Gillian should stand in the absence of Senor Hook.

I'm still undecided.

Don't think where she stands is a critical issue, but it would be nice if she sang a bit. Dunno what, just wanted something other than spam on the home page. Maybe they could cover a Hazel Dean track and get Gillian to sing that... (when I first heard Face Up I thought it was them spoofing Hazel Dean...).

Maybe having two younger guys who move about on the same side would look funny, so the put Phil on one side and the very (e)motionless Gillian on the same side as the bassist. They have 5 people now. Or maybe that setup is best for all the cords to reach the outlets, so they wouldn't have to buy new extensions. Maybe Gillian demanded that side of the stage as part of the deal to come back. Or maybe Bernard just wanted to fuck around with you cunts and see if you would notice the difference.

I'd like them to switch from Elegia to Avalanche as the opening instrumental (ish) track. Gillian could sing the vocal bits on that. In fact it occurred to me when it was announced that she was back, that Avalanche would be a nice way of making the point at the beginning of their gigs.

There's been a few around the 90 minute mark, and I think a couple that went about 105 mins. Think Paris 02 had about 18 songs or something like that, with 4 encore tracks in 2 encores?

Wembley Arena 2006 was 19 songs, which for NO is pretty long. Setlist is in the LIVE section on this website. Added bonus was Maximo Park as support band. Was the last time I ever saw Hooky as part of the band

Yes I'd forgotten Wembley somehow, which is odd as I had an Access All Areas pass and was invited to the soundcheck!

Thinking about it a bit more overnight and listening to the Troxy CD this morning, I think they could quite easily accommodate a bit of Gillian singing into the current set, either a bit of backing vocal somewhere or (to mix it up a bit in the way that they've been reimagining some of the older tracks) give her the lead vocal on, say, Regret?

If I am not wrong, it was Hordern Pavilion in Sydney 2012. They played the whole night and album after album in the chronological order. :D
