Let's get specific with one. Are you talking about "Blue Order New Monday"? I'll address that one and "I Want to Hold Your Other Hand." "I Want to Hold Your Other Hand," in theory, if you imagine a person, boy or girl who has two hands, and John Lennon has expressed his desire to hold one of them, there should, in theory, be one for me. So "I Want to Hold Your Other Hand."

Now "Blue Order New Monday" -- Bernard Sumner had a band for a hot second called Bad Lieutenant, and they lifted a full riff from "When Jokers Attack" on twelve-string. It's not a guitar lead like Jimi Hendrix. It was a melodic motif, and they stole it all the way and played it on twelve-string with the same tonality. Didn't mention anything. Total dishonesty when you're coming from that kind of money. We know he doesn't have any ideas worth merit anymore, so that's okay.

So you know what? I decided to get him back. I know how algorithms work on the supercomputers. I'm in a legitimate band, and I make real records. Now, for all time, you can't Google "blue order," right? You can't Google "New Order Blue Monday" without coming up with "Blue Order New Monday," too. You can't look for it on YouTube without having my option. And you can't do it on iTunes or Spotify or Last FM.

So he's fucked. This is worldwide. I do Le Monde, Der Spiegel. I play Tokyo or everywhere. Just because I'm not on David Letterman or something like that doesn't mean I'm not legit. I do quite well. It just means that they think I'll speak my mind. That's not the business they're in. I was told by NPR they can't play my music because it's been suggested that it triggers mental illness in children around the age of nine or ten. Isn't that great?

I take it he's referencing "Sink or Swim". The guitar riff in "Sink or Swim" and "When Jokers Attack" share the first 5 notes or so.

I've seen youtube comments on the Sink or Swim video that claim BL 'ripped off' or 'copied' that song from that band you mentioned. I don't know much about that band, (whatever Massacre) but these songs sound nothing alike. What a twat.

I guess when you spend your life making straight up guitar music, the like of which has been done to death, you'll come up against this sort of thing. Guess what, a lot of it sounds similar.

BJM ripped most of their stuff off Spiritualized anyway.

To me, the quoted words are just a load of gibberish which I got fed up of reading quite quickly, irrespective of the content.

Come on, be honest, the intros do sound alike. I almost started singing "What you doing". Nothing to make a big fuss about though. As said, BJM hardly make very original music themselves. It's a shame that Blue Order New Monday isn't a very good song now it turns up on search engines together with Blue Monday. No revenge at all.

He's really not right in the head, that fella - as mentioned earlier, anyone who has seen the doco DIG! will come to that conclusion fairly quickly. Think of a wannabe Syd Barret minus any talent, combined with an "Look at me, I am gifted and weird!" persona

I'd rather listen to 'Sink or Swim' instead of stupid pop music we have over here, or rap music. And yes I know it's not the best Bernard's ever done. But anyway, the 'similarities' between the two songs are not enough to say BL stole it or did something wrong. And making a big deal out of it, talking like he did in the interview, is quite foolish.

Obviously these comments are being made as diversionary tactics by Hooky's legal team to throw Barney off his guard, otherwise the blokes had some sort of breakdown !

I don't know him either. The first time I've heard of the band was on youtube comments when some people were saying they thought the songs were similar.

That's the extent of my knowledge about said band.

Haha! I'm already satisfied with the music (of any genre) I listen to. Anyway, when I saw the title of this thread I thought it was going to be another Hooky interview.

i cant take anyone who uses the phrase "a hot second" seriously to be honest.

this man has got a lot of free publicity out of it anyway.

i heard a musician saying you can get away with robbing so long as it doesnt exceed 16 bars but i doubt it was intentional when its s easy to check with the widespread availability of music online.
