“When we recorded the New Order albums in Islington I used to cycle to the studio from the flat and I got hit by a taxi once on Marylebone road and I lost my temper with the driver,” said Bernard Sumner, the New Order singer. “Anywhere is dangerous when you are on a bike.” http://www.thetimes.co.uk/tto/public/cyclesafety/article3533575.ece

I should have read that article before I broke my femur in a bike accident.

While cycling has it's risks, it's worth taking that risk. This sounded like a slightly more politely worded scare-mongering article about riding bicycles. Lots of people around the world, ride bicycles without being so scared and paranoid about it. And it's no more dangerous in the long run, than cars or yachts... Interestingly, Bernard's into sailing as well, isn't he?

i notice all the horror stories come from london. hardly surprising - it is a terrifying place, riddled with hooded youths smashing shop windows to steal tellies and orphaned urchins picking your pocket. "kill a cyclist during rush hour" is probably a GAME played by bankers and media types. i suspect it is rather less death defying to ride your bike in scunny than in zone 1.

ANYWAY. look at this!

invisible bicycle helmet.

i want one.
