PFD...any good?

I found Pumped Full of Drugs today for $18. Is this video worth buying. I thought Taras was a bit of a rip-off but this looks good. Also i found Here Are The Young Men and another JD live video. This place just got tons of video boots...Radiohead/Marley lots more. Should i get PFD?

PFD was the first N.O. video I purchased ,back in 1987. My family didn't even own a VCR at the time,so I had to rush out and get a cheap second hand one. Aah,they were crazy,safer times. Definitley buy it,enjoy it and sing along to those great N.O tracks we all love so much. Laugh hystericly at the polite audience,and smile as Barney tells the sound man to turn up the fucking volume on the drum machine.

if you're a true new order fan, you would buy it. i have 2 copies myself.

Yes, it great (as I tried to say before). I particularly liked Barn's "There's some c*nts up on the stage here, just down there" comment at the start of a ripping version of Subculture. CTD

PFD is definitely worth it . I don't like Here Are The Young Men. Didn't watch it for years but, if I remember well, the sound is crap and the video not better .

'Pumped Full of Drugs' is a legendary piece of New Order memorabilia. I can't believe Big B G hasn't already this item in his collection. It is worth the money for the artwork alone.

Worst video by NO - Taras Shevchenko (out of all of their live performances... why this? - and to release it on DVD... the mind boggles).

Yeah, definitely got to buy that PFD tape, absolutely great. The 1st time I ever witnessed NO live...

Good quality, funny images backstage and one of my favorite moments : Stephen "getting ready" during the intro of "Face Up". And when the song speeds up and he can at last play, you see a crazy and moving light of relief in his eyes.

Watch closer for the ones who haven't noticed.

Another great video moment. "Temptation" on the "New Order Academy" video when Barney starts laughung while singing and Stephen is having a laugh because of it.

Great simple human moments.

The Academy video would've been better if it hadn't had been a Mike Mansfield Production.The man who likes cheesy effects and fluro lines .

new order need Tomato to oversee their next video/dvd production. the underworld products are outstanding (footwear...and Live)

I totally agree with that too. That's why I don't watch that vid that much. You have trouble believe it's a real show. You see the effects more than the band itself.

... Geoff... do you know who they should get to direct their next video... Buster Keaton?! - that way at least we're all assured of at least a few laughs along the way. It could be a silent movie where Peter Hook is hanging over the edge of a bridge on a unicycle with one hand and Barney gets tied to a train track for no apparent reason. The end could feature a chase scene through a town where NO are followed by several overweight policeman with whistles.

Or was that Haroly Lloyd .

You want another story from the Klump's vault ? In strange circumstances, I did a short film (a little more than 4 minutes) in B&W, with old super 8 stock. I filmed a Belgian band. It was supposed to be silent. You know, just to see if somethings interesting happens when you watch a band play without hearing the sound. Finally, I put a slow Stereolab track on it and it looks like something strangely compelling, nostalgic.

By the way, Huntsy, it was Keaton, in the properly named "Cops" short.

D'you think? I find Academy's the only vid I can really watch cos it's the only one I can relate to (pre 316). PFD and Taras mean nothing to me cos the gigs simply didn't mirror my own experience at New Order gigs. You can almost taste the tension in the Academy gig. Cracking performance!

Just compare "The Perfect Kiss" official Demme video to the Academy vid. Nothing seems to really happen.

AJ - are you as frustrated with NO as I am? - how many live gigs have they done? (answer: about 2 million) and out of that lot, how come we have to suffer 'Academy', 'PDF', a couple of ropey bootlegs' Taras' and '316'. Now I'm not saying these are bad, but can you even imagine the gigs we could be watching?

I feel a bit cheated - and surely NO are losing money from the likes of us by not releasing more gear. After all, NO are an excellent live band - even when they play poor.

... yeah like I said - the Order only release the best gigs on video and dvd. I don't know what Huntsy was on about the soft knacka.

Not sure what you mean? Nothing seems to happen in either video, surely? It's just New Order being New Order. Only real complaint about the Academy 'Kiss' is that it seems to focus on Barney and his boring bloody cowbell, instead of Hooky who's carrying the song at the time.

It's hard to explain... Let's say Demme films music while, on Academy, it's just images... erm, am I making any sense ? Not sure...
