Best B-Side?

What is everyone's favourite B-Side? (I have only included non remixes and dubs):

In a Lonely Place Cries and Whispers Mesh Hurt Lonesome Tonight 1963 Don't Do It Best & Marsh MTO Vicious Circle (New Order Mix) Behind Closed Doors Sabotage Player In The League Such A Good Thing

My personal favourite is 1963...

The best ones (for me, of course): "Cries and Whispers", "MTO", "Sabotage" and "Player in the League".

Eh, but "Brutal" is not a B-side...

"Lonesome Tonight"

It's one of their 3 b-sides that I prefer to it's a-side (the others being "Don't Do It" and "Such a Good Thing").

This shows how great New Order is. Even their B sides are fantastic and it's hard to choose a favorite.

Hurt - not only the best B side but the best thing they have done and great live

Well... If you want a strong productive B-side outfit try Suede. In '93 Steve told Peel they usually fobbed you off with remixes and dubs and he regretted relegating '1963' to B-side status (some tossbag will now point out it became an A-side in '95. Oh fuck, it was me.) Best B-side is 1963 by a cunty mile. I actually hate Hurt but apparently it was better live as it lent itself to improv in their experimental heyday.

I like '1963' the best, but I also like 'MTO', 'Vicious Circle', 'Behind Closed Doors', 'Sabotage', and Player In The League'. 'Hurt' is also quite good IMO,

It was a b-side to the 2002 re-release of World In Motion. Quite possibly their worst ever song in my opinion (after rock the shack of course).

another vote for Lonesome Tonight -- not only a best b-side, but one of their best songs -- just so damn majestic

edit: yeah, 1963 is a tie... forgot it was a b-side!

Lonesome Tonight is just lush, awesome, great. New Order at the peak of their production style. The sound is beautiful, their peers had to be jealous as hell... and before they learned how to make more "proper/normal" songs.

I always liked the B sides in the 80s. Recorded the vinyl album of the era on one side of the 90 min cassette, then all the A and B sides on the other side of the tape, so I never regarded the B sides to be secondary to the album songs.

Everything's Gone Green was also technically a B-side first, so it shares that with 1963.

The best as already mentioned is lonesome tonight, cries and whispers, hurt and mesh. Honourable mention though to instrumental of thieves like us b side to murder.

I've never been keen on 1963 to be honest.

Everything's Gone Green

Lonesome Tonight was so plaintive. But Hurt live was violent and angry, then theres 1963 which they've never quite nailed live for me.

Hurt it is then....by a mile.

Seconded! The purists hated it, I really like the wonky bits at the end. Not everyone's taste, but works for me. 'Player...' is a bit cheesy innit? It was originally slated for the album as 'Field' but I think they did right to relegate it to B-side.
