I just picked up a gray and white cd titled simply "Warsaw". Some ditties on here I have never heard that say they're from some '77 recording sessions. Also saw pretty much the same record this weekend, except with a purple/black cover and Ian on the front singing. Track listings looked the exact same. The '77 songs I had never heard and sound great, very Sex Pistols influenced. And the the slower version of "Transmission" has me running around the house with my shorts on my head. NEways, any significance to these cd's??? Thanx.

not at all, like 12 bucks. It even has a very detailed history, for the inside of a cd sleeve, of Warsaw/JD.
My first ever post in this forum was about this "Warsaw" CD. I don't want to type everything again, so check this thread (thanks Nick for getting the search engine back). :)
Note that I wasn't able to create a link. 
this is a bootleg, but can be found at regular outlets like Amazon.com... so does that mean that the guys are okay with it?
i find the sound to be awfully muddy/murky, like they ran a program to remove all "noise" and imperfections in the recordings... i don't mind a few a pops and record noise if the sound is still dynamic-ish..

It was a bootleg but i am sure this got a proper release...in greater detail later on.Always available at HMV but NOT one of the items i own.I have the bootleg 12 inch covers...but NO record.Strange but true.

This was the abandoned LP for RCA, right?
In her book, Deborah Curtis is of the opinion that the "released" recording did not come from the master tape, due to the sound quality, as pointed out above by I Don't Know.
Transmission and No Love Lost are particularly good from that session. I'm sure our Brazilian friends wont mind me pointing out that you can download that version of No Love Lost HERE.
Out of interest and still on-topic did they ever release anything under Stiff Kittens or has anyone ever heard any demos or even know of any song titles!?!??
I have guessed they changed their name while they were still in the 'jamming' stage...
i,ve got a copy of this,it was released on a portuguese label (i think!) its easy to get hold of, our local record shop (selectadisc) always has it in usually for less than a tenner.. i dont know the story behind this at all but i wonder if whoever got hold of the tapes for this one released it in portugal to get round any copyright that may exist i think its a great cd though and theres a certain quality to some of the tracks that aint there on the proper recordings

yea the one with the baby on front. i agree the sound quality sucks, but hey, i just turn it up REALLY LOUD...
good trivia question though:

I have seen a very susspicious-looking bootleg on eBay allegedly recorded by "Stiff Kittens". As they changed their name before their first gig in May 1977, and recorded a demo the following June, I doubt it's legit in the sense that they were using Stiff Kittens still. It might just be
a. the June 1977 deoms (which I would love to have, btw, just for curiosity's sake)
b. The "Ideal for Living" record
c. the abandoned RCA album
I can't remember the track listing, but I'm sure it'll pop up on eBay again.

I have seen a very susspicious-looking bootleg on eBay allegedly recorded by "Stiff Kittens". As they changed their name before their first gig in May 1977, and recorded a demo the following June, I doubt it's legit in the sense that they were using Stiff Kittens still. It might just be

c. the abandoned RCA album

hey man according to the liner notes, tracks 13-17 on this cd are the demos they recorded, maybe the ones youre looking for?? They were recorded at Pennine Studios in July of '77. It also says the first 12 songs are the "abandoned" recording originally for RCA.
This cd wasn't hard to find, this was the second copy I found. Maybe cdnow has it? Good luck.

Tabsy, I think you have spotted a bootleg with a misleading title. This "Stiff Kittens - Try To Cure Yourself" is just a Joy Division concert recorded at Nashville Ballroom, London, in September 1979.
As for the demo tracks you are interested, you just have to buy this "Warsaw" semi-bootleg CD. Some time ago it was available even at Amazon.co.uk, but I think it's not so hard to find these days.

That looks like it, but it was described as "the first ever recording". The boot I have of the RCA album has about 15 tracks, so 3 of those must;ve come from somewhere else. I would be interested in finding a cd with the July (not June) '77 demos, but it's not essential.

Don't worry about it. Like I said, from everything I've heard about it, I ain't in no hurry to hear it.
Just want to say, I found a legit recording of the RCA album with the July 77 demos tacked on at an online store, as soon as I have money to burn I might just send for that. Never gonna get rid of my bootleg, though.
I think I have something similar to that (or is that). I found some files on winMX that were labeled Warsaw so I downloaded them. 17 tracks in all. Would this be the lost ablbum tracks:

When I first saw it I was a bit sceptical but I'll be dammed. Some of the stuff is very good.
the cool thing for me was/has been I had never heard the demo tracks from '77. I was freakin out, brand new JD!!! for me anyways....
as for the other songs, even though I had heard them all before, theyre not exactly the same as on Still or Permanent or Substance. I don't know about other people but I can definitely get off to diff versions of the same classic songs.
But no one has answered my question: is there any special reason for the baby on the cover??

I have a boot called "Remains" which has the 77 stuff on it, and I have everything else from the Warsaw CD, so I never bought it.
I got a blue vinyl copy of this album at a used record store in the early '80s. I didn't have "As You Said" or the other stuff on it. It had a black jacket with a large "Unknown Pleasures" artwork on it. The record was blue vinyl and the label said Warsaw/J.D. on it. The CD with the baby is the same stuff. However, the focals are more prominent and seem like they are higher pitched. I like the vinyl better, but the CD is the same and more usable nowadays.
