"24 Hour Party People" Region 2 DVD will carry the catalogue number FACDVD424 out to buy on DVD and VHS on 27th January 2003. "

Guess, we should expect this kinda thing though. 'Course this is out on rental already & the rental companies have to have a period of exclusitivity before it's made available to the buying public, otherwise they get very stroppy about things. Praps this release date was the quickest they could get it out in line with that agreement.

Then again it could be cos they're f*ckwits. After all, they cocked up the track listing on the CD so we can't put anything past 'em.

I think 2 is european and the others/1 'rest of the world' not entirely sure as i punched a code in via my remote control which makes it play everything :D

DVD is i think short for Digital Video Disc - how imaginative ;)

Perhaps you can bring us a copy of the DVD on your travels down under JG?

DVD = Digital Versatile Disc, now commonly thought of as Digital Video Disc. If you bought your machine in the UK it's likely you'll have a region 2 player. You can play Western European discs, but to play other regions you'll need to get a hardware/software fix.

DVDA on the other hand stands for a dangerous professional sexual position, perfected by the likes of Sylvia Saint and popularised on South Park. Won't spell it out here for fear of offending/arousing.

The world's split into 6 (actually 8, but we'll ignore 7 & 8) regions whereby the disc is locked to a particular region and can only be played in a player the matches the region the disc's locked to.... Region 1 = US, Region 2 = Europe/Japan, Region 4 = the Ozzies (or that general area).... of course, you could always get a natty little player that can be made multi-region and will play anything from anywhere....

The multi-region thing is great for getting discs from regions other than your own, where the film's either out in say Region 1 DVD before being release in the cinema in Region 2 (Pitch Black & the first Blair Witch are good examples, and probably 24HPP by the sound of it).

If you must know why...

American movies are released first in North America.. 6 months later, they are released in video, and 6 months later, to specialized cable channels...

Since american movies are released later in the world, many times, the DVD is released in North America before the movie is even released in, let's say, Europe.

So, movie bootlegging is easy, this is why they did this regional coding...

It got worst.. we have a law in Canada (Québec in fact), a movie cannot be shown more than 2 weeks if its french translation is not available.. so DVD movies had the french translation on it, they were available in France before the movie was out in french.. what happened? stupid movie studios started to remove the french version on the north american DVD, and even stupider movie studios started to release TWO DVD with one language on each..

In other words, because we speak french and are north american, we can't get a movie in french on DVD or have to pay for 2 copies if we are collectors. "insert here your favorite curse word" movie studio executives. Even worst, sometimes they release special packages years later, and even then they don't include the french translation, it took 2 years to finally have the Matrix with both languages on it!! that was the whole fu**ing point of the DVD to have multiple languages on it!!!

Most music DVDs don't have regional codings because they have a worldwide release.. but somehow, some DVDs such as Here to Stay, have it, while 60 MPH doesn't...

Go figure... :rolleyes:
