New Order in Vegas

Also, someone asked earlier why Vegas. Here's a great recent article about the shift that's happening in electronic music: Pacha/ Ibiza / Vegas
I'm assuming "Respect" is "Regret" (although I would adore a New Order cover of an Aretha Franklin song).

They look like they're having fun.

I think so, as they soundchecked this one and "Hellbent" in Lima. We were expecting them in the live set, sooner or later.

I would love to hear HELLBENT live if they play it, it is a great song.

They do. However, somebody needs to tell Cunningham to stop copying the Converse shoes. More than one person wearing them in a group of people over 40 means somebody is a follower. And since the other guy is Barney that can only mean one thing. ;)

You weren't the lucky recipient of a Johnny Giles text at godknowswhattime this morning then? 💀

It was a good show, everyone had fun.
But the sound on the floor in front of the band was very bad. I thought that they were playing the music for Face Up, but Barney sang True Faith. There were some sound and light problems, does Barney usually finish the show by saying 'I hope we didn't disappoint you!'

Nope not this time ![]()
Wonder what Chappers did during the song, do like Hooky did in 1993?
Or add his own "flourishes"? 😎
At one point Barney said they were going to play "I'll Stay With You", but instead they started "Your Silent Face" (I was really hoping to hear a Lost Sirens track...). World was an awesome rendition, Barney introduced it saying it never being played before. The True Faith intro was so reworked that I didn't recognize it almost before the first lines (it may be the same as on the 2012 tour, but I don't remember already). 4 Joy Division songs is a bit too much for a NO concert these days, IMO, no? :) We want more New Order! ![]()
I think the venue was a very interesting choice to play at: the roof of a three-story building amidst Las Vegas skyscrapers, sirens and flashing lights, with the audience standing between the swimming pool and bars (some were laying on the sofas).
It was a great show, the band was having a good time. One thing though: the synths were way buried under guitars. For example, in LWTUA they were almost inaudible. The band developed a layered guitar sound... ![]()
P.S. And no, Barney did not join Marr to perform Getting Away With It. Not being a Smiths fan, his Smiths covers left me aloof, while his new songs were quite good. Idk, if it's the lights, but he looked kinda like Willem Defoe.

I received two!
Show was fantastic! I had only seen them one other time back in 2001 or so when they did that tour with Moby, so I can't compare it to the "old days," but I thought they were great. I'm getting too old to go to a show that ends so late and come back to work the next day though.

Call me bastard, but I 've noticed that since Peter Hook left. Don't know if there's any relation or coincidence. It's just my third gig after that and it happens all the time (but not when he was around 😈 ).

I think most would agree about the ratio of Joy Division to New Order tracks. However, as the focus of this mini-tour is Coachella, where they're unlikely to play a full set, we're lucky they've made any changes to last years set lists.

Gillian's influence?
I've always thought "World" sounded like a repurposed Other Two track. During the 1993 tour, Barney didn't seem too enamoured with it.

Especially, Isolation was a bit too much (for a New Order concert). Atmosphere almost made me cry, what a downer.
Agree: World was a very special treat.

Might there be a Converse promotional deal of some sort?

You're right m8. Same they had with Adidas a few years ago.

I don't think so. That said, it's true that in the music video for 'World', the band members are only seen a little bit...

Barney did those ads for Converse a couple of years ago, so maybe.

No.
We can see also him during Atmosphere video.

No.
He was edited out of the track on Republic.

Wrong again Julio, They never had any sort of deal with Adidas, a "fixer" supplied the band with Adidas trainers, not just NO but other Manc bands too. Obviously to promote the Adidas brand.
