Here comes a little off the wall question...I think I read an article a lonnnggg time ago about how they sequence/program synth parts (bass synth lines) in their songs, and that Hooky would do it this way/style and Bernard/Steve would do it a different way/style.
Questions:
Does anyone know which songs bass synth lines were programmed by who?
If not what is the "difference" or what do you think is the "difference" between bernard's vs. hook's sequencing/programming bass synth styles?

While they tended not to state who played what on a given track, I remember Hooky mentioning in an interview that he was responsible for the sequenced bass line of "Touched by the Hand of God".
This may (or maybe not) be releetd to your question since I'm not a musician -- in his latest book, Hooky says Barney tended to encourage him to sequence the types of bass lines you refer to I think (i.e. the more 'traditional' rock group ones) so he could focus on the more melodic stuff. I have the impression after the 90s everyone settled into focusin on their own stuff then trying out other instruments, but that is just speculation
Hi everyone out there! I feel it's their own choice whatever to do considering their status)) As I was at a gig in Moscow in June , I heard some sessions were pre-programmed... Actually it becomes a matter of style of sounding live..like no other group)))
Think the original reference was about the 80s, and Hooky has always seemed to say that Bernard knew the tech stuff much better.
Who knows what they know how to do now with current equipment, or if they just rely on "help".
The matter is that while watching a NO gig at youtube yesterday it struck me Bernard's guitar wasn't connected at all... The gig was last year. Am I mistaken?((( After Moscow I just idolize them...
I'm too much of an ignoramous to comment but if it's of interest: in '93 Hooky told a guitar mag he liked to feed a bass-line into a synth and then play his distinctive style over it, and this combination is at the heart of the 'NO sound', but with Republic Hague didn't use his overplaying on World. Bernard forgets a lot of things but I don't think he's forgotten how to play guitar. Professional bands have been using wireless amp/lead systems for years. He probably had a wireless pack strapped to his back that you couldn't see from the front.

Bernard used a wireless amp/lead system for his guitar. His guitar is definitely plugged in, as you can see/hear him clearly playing lead guitar on Shadowplay and hear his distinctive rhythm guitar on Perfect Kiss, Temptation, True Faith, Crystal, ect. Bernard's style of guitar playing is distinctive and quite different from Phil's. Phil plays a more jangly, elliptical style of guitar.

I think there is definitely some subterfuge at times though. Introduction to Regret and Phil 'playing' the piano parts on Crystal for a start.
i have one wish - they play several sets in the months ahead of about 35 songs total at some fantastic indoor or outdoor venue ( california ,vegas, red rocks , london, la scala, ?? etc. ) and all songs are recorded. including at least 25 songs not so current ,and of course some of the current ones . and a heart and soul/ temptation long jam( 20minutes) to end the show. and vicious streak 10-15 minute show opening . and peter is welcomed for a couple of songs, perhaps from revenge or monaco, and then ...

Yes, I remember something similar, along the lines that Hooky simply turned up after the rest of the band had done their bit and added his bassline.

Yes, I remember something similar, along the lines that Hooky simply turned up after the rest of the band had done their bit and added his bassline.
Didn't Barney use Hooky's bassline as the vocal melody for the verse on "World" and therefore Hooky's bass had been erased from that track in the mixing? And isn't Hooky upset about this up to this day? I remember reading an interview in German Spex magazine 1993 in which Bernard said "Stephen Hague was a good choice for producer as he was able to make clear to a certain band member that not all members have to play on each track". Childish/selfish from both points of view really.
