Official : Sabotage as next b-side

This news on NME.com :

NEW ORDER are to release '60 MILES AN HOUR' as the second single from their comeback album 'GET READY' on 22 October.

Released on two CD singles, a number of remixers have been approached to make the rock-based track suitable for clubs. The single will be backed by a new song, 'Sabotage'.

Rumours maintain that the band's second single from the album in America will be 'Turn My Way', but a spokesperson for the band couldn't confirm this.

Meanwhile,

New Order start their sold-outBritish tour in October, supported by Ram, who contain Peter Hook's ex-Monaco band mates David Potts, Paul Kehoe and Andy Poole. The tour calls at: The tour now runs:

What thoughts on '60MPH' being released as a 2nd single G man? - I feel the NO crew have again chosen a bad egg. Turn My Feet / Run Wild / Vicious Streak / Primitive Notion / Someone Like Geoff. Any of the good ones eh!?

They don't do themselves any favours do they? - Turn My Way would have been the logical choice, why go for a lesser track? - if they wanted to seal their own doom they should have gone the whole hog and selected Rock the Chicken.

Close Range could be a good single, I think. Turn My Way, too, of course, the only song I like more every time I listen to it, and I listen to it quite often.

But, as I already said, Someone Like Geoff, erm, is my least favorite, good music but poor tune, IMHO...

Holy Schmoly G bird - Someone not unlike You is a belter. I was a little dissappointed with Barney's verse melody as this is always the key point to an Order classic but it has grown on me. The chorus is an oddball entry but the bitch adds a bit of spice (as they usually do). I'm definately not a fan of ladies on the Order but I don't mind any on the Get Ready soundtrack.

The keyboards / synth bits on Someone Like Me are of much greatness - my only nag is that the entire song doesn't hang together as well as other Order songs. Still, I'm a bit surprised that your not keen. Rock the Shatter and Close Range are, for me, far worse (not crap, just not too hot).

Oh well, you can't please someone a lot of the time, and anyone else a great deal of the night.

60MPH instead of Turn My Way, or Primitive Biscuits - bad decision, go back to start, do not collect 200 pounds. (or in Belgium, 237 Francs).

'SLY' is GetReady's 'Liar'- best left safely ensconsed between album tracks and not widely disseminated.. If the Order were to release 'SLY' as a single, you'd soon find them in your local Sainsbury's- aisle 8- chicken stock, beef stock, laughing stock...

My 'Rock the Chicken' will see your 'Someone Like Geoff'... 'Turn My Way' is the next single they're looking for..

You even like like lady at the beginning of Crystal ? To me the only low point of that song. But one of the best guitar attack ever.

When I play the CD in my car, I sing out lound to the "Close Range" chorus, not the one from "Someone Like You", apart from the "We're having the time of our liiiiiiiiiives" part.

As for the verses melodies in NO history, I definiteley share your opinion, as I once stated on this board.

DC... How dare you sir! - I would never digest a single crisp who's date had expired. I don't know about you, but in our country expiry dates are clearly labelled prior to purchase. A bad crisp indeed.

I fear I may be in 'song title mix-up land' - so in its simplest terms, whichever song is BEFORE Rock the Chicken is in no way as talented as the potential hit parade buster 'Someone Not Unlike Geoff Klumpy'. Your reference to the leftover 'bargain bucket' in Sainsbury's sounds similar to where I buy a lot of my veggy shit... in the 'Whoopsee' fridges in Asda - where out-of-date mock-meat sells for a song. I wouldn't expect a NO song to be in their, in the same way I wouldn't expect you to find a human hair in a small bowl of Riced Crispies.

Geoff - I like the build up to Crystal on Getting things Ready, and can understand your hatred of the beautiful lady screaming at the beginning. That said, I think I must be mellowing, but I dig its shit and can only imagine having tea with the lady they have employed to sing at the very first seconds of the album.... Getting Jiggy.

60mph is almost a great song for mine... It has the hallmarks of a NO classic: prominent bass, good tempo, some nice riffs and keyboards towards the end and the verses are servicable.. What lets it down for me is a quite a predictable chorus, with its somewhat hackneyed rhyme.. A shame- a fine album track nonetheless and possibly good live???

Some strong elements of the song may lend themselves to decent remixing.. Damn I'd love it if London approached someone like Kruder & Dorfmeister to rework it..

... not wanting to re-open the can of remix worms, but, and I wouldn't like to stick my neck out on this one, erm, now, let me think... could the re-mixes of 60MPH be 4/4 bass drum efforts with shit keyboards over a narled up Barney vocal? - what beats me is how these re-mix people can stand to listen to their own filth. They have the imagination of a small tadpole.

Where did you stand on the Lee Coombs 'Crystal' effort? I personally thought it to be fairly polished.. I've found most recent-era NO remixes somewhat forgettable, and indeed, a four to the floor '60mph' stomper holds little appeal.. However in the right hands, good tracks can take on new and interesting dimensions..

Sorry about the stale crips barb, by the way.. Expiry dates have indeed made their way to this part of the world.. We have cold beer also. It compliments the Pringle devastatingly well- stale or crispy. Recommended!

Lee Coombs mix a bit shit I thought. Come on Depthy, sooo much scope with Crystal to really get some excellent material going. The drums 'on their own' for a few seconds then slowly bringing in some strings - build to music man, add a few sprinkles of magic over the top, introduce the Hook... fucking hell its not hard. No, what we should do is go for a 4/4 bass and bore the listener to smithereens.

It really isn't like the old days anymore is it? - If you said to me now, that you had the 60MPH CD single with re-mixes... I could tell you what's on 'em.

For the days of 'Shellcock', 'Dub-Vulture', 'Shame of the Nation', 'The Perfect Pit' and so on, and so on. This is my opinion... 90% of re-mixers now are unable to play music (like almost all DJ's) and so flounder when it comes to putting a song together. After all, I could buy a PS2 and a piece of software for 200 sheets and within an hour be knocking out the shite that's appeared 'disgustingly' on ALL NO work over the last 10 years.

Shame on them, shame on you for accusing me of eating bad crisps.

I stick by my Lee Coombs Crystal recommendation.. I don't lump it in the same withered basket as the Bedrock version/ the World Sexy Discos / the Vanelli 1963s, ad nauseum...

After all, I could buy a PS2 and a piece of software for 200 sheets and within an hour be knocking out the shite that's appeared 'disgustingly' on ALL NO work over the last 10 years.

Sabotage was named Run This River Dry, i think. Great song. I sent a copy to the Nic and Seb so maybe they'l put it up soon.

i disagree about the perfect pit. that short track sounds terrible now. sounds really hollow on my turntable. not the equipment this time. the "detroit" mix of Round & Round is excellent in my opinion. the perfect restructuring of a good neworder tune. as for 4/4 mixes of 60mph....isn't that what 12" are for? leave the techno/house versions on the format that makes sense and give the cd's some live tracks or more bonus material not 10 minutes of Diggers drum machine.

Why all this critism of the Crystal Bedrock remix? I quite like it, just as well as the Lee Coombs mix. My favorite is probably the Creamer K Main Mix, however. What are you looking for in a remix. It sounds like you want some new interesting musical take on a track, but I think that the intended purpose is just to make is fit better in a club mix. It is supposed to be quite repetative. Do you who don't like these mixes even actually like current dance music?

i know exactly what the mixes on Crystal are for that's why i suggested they release these 4/4 type mixes on vinyl only and leave the cd's for live tracks/multimedia etc...i fully enjoy listening to Digweed mix it up for hours on end but not in my living room. the coombs mix was the best of the bunch even though i was looking forward to the Creamer and K mixes the most. I have lots of their 12" remixes and singles for mixing purposes but their version of Crystal sounds like a Creamer and K remix by numbers. Dark, Dubby prog.house has it's place...lets have some interesting remixes this time around...to revisit my earlier remix suggestions, Underworld, Weatherall, Automater, Bundy K. Brown

I find much current dance material beginning to sound stale. I've been around dance for a long time- Blue Monday set the blueprint for me back in 83. I'm hearing less and less fresh material and more tired rehashing of previous styles. As more and more dance styles are appropriated by mainstream pop, dance has lost much of its underground appeal... It now takes more left-field acts (Aphex Twin, that maths symbol guy, Squarepusher, et al) to offer a fresh take on things.

Where New Order is concerned, I much prefer to hear the mix retain elements of the original, rather than the DJ completely reworking the tune and replacing Hooky, Gill, etc with their own production. I dislike mixes that owe nothing more to the original than fragments of Bernard's vocal or a keyboard hook. This to me has lost the essence of what makes the band distinctive and great. It becomes simply a new track laced with some Barney vocal samples. If I wanted that, I'd buy a Digweed original.

For mine, Coombs appeared to retain the crux of the original and incorporated his own angle. It also chugged along at an infectious tempo.

Nice one. I agree fully with that. To be honest I like a lot of the Bedrock progressive material, and to be fair they've made a couple of excellent tunes (Heaven Scent for example), but in retrospect their mix of Crystal was Bedrock by numbers. The Lee Coombes mix worked for me both in the club and on my home stereo, and that is pretty much what I'd ask of a remix.

I'm not to hopeful about the 60mph mixes. I'm sure it'll be 4*4 progressive with Barney repeating 'i'll be there for you when you want me to' over and over again

Should let Sasha lose on a track if possible. At least if it did have to be 4*4 progressive, we'd get a decent tune out of it

i did think the remixes of world were pretty good and really do sound fresh today, in fact i played them the other nite after a long club nite.

I too like the World remixes, as well as the Spooky ones.
