Just heard Bernard on 5 Live

Little chance of a reconciliation with Hooky. 'He's a very angry man'.

Book delivered just now.This has really taken me by surprise.Quick flick through before start of reading, there's some cracking previously unseen photos.Really excited about reading this book.

The section about the split seems a little odd at first read, though throughout the book he seems fairly open about Karl Bartos "knowing what a twat I am", and sometimes being a "right miserable scumbag" as he puts it on p280. I'll have to read it properly. Also credits Hooky with musical talent quite graciously I thought.

Thanks for that Mr Turnbull. It would have been interesting to hear Bacon ask about the legal stuff relating to reforming NO without youknowwho, and also when the new album was likely to get made/released. I don't think there was too much I didn't already know in that interview. Respect to Bacon for suggesting they just bury the hatchet anyway. He gets points for that.

Early chapters of the book where Bernard says about the health problems his Mother, Grandmother and Grandfather suffered and the tearing down of the street he'd grown up in is heartwrenching and harrowing stuff.Sounds like he had a nightmare time growing up though it is interspersed with lighter, funnier stories from that period of his life.

The science teacher story is mental [eek2]

New Order fans are fiercely loyal. They don't just like New Order, they feel a profound connection between the band, music and themselves. It goes way beyond simply liking a catchy tune, its deeply personal : its not just a case of playing our music while they're washing the pots or catching us occasionally on the radio - these are people whose lives have been changed, who've found some kind of solace or inspiration in what we've done.

My favourite line from the book so far, never a truer word spoken.

As for the book itself, enjoyable I obviously don't want to spoil it for the rest so that's all I am saying

I told Bernard as much when I got the chance to meet him last year. New Order, and Joy Division as well, got me through my brother's passing. I got both band's Substance (via BMG) in the mail just days after he passed and I connected immediately to the music. New Order helped me try to find joy and dance without fear. Powerful stuff...

Finished reading the book .Yeah i enjoyed it immensely.Just was really good after all these years to finally get Bernard's story and what makes him tick, his views and opinions and everything else.Yeah there's been countless interviews etc with him over the years but a book is just, dunno, different.

I kind of zone out these days when it comes to the tales about the legal wranglings with the Hacienda and prefer to read stories and accounts that i've not previously read about.Even if it's little tales like the one about when he was driving a hire car in America and it turned out it had faulty brakes.Then there's other tales which i had previously read about but had long forgotten.

I actually found myself laughing reading about the breakdown in relations between Hooky and the rest of the band..just found a lot of the incidents Bernard recounts on that subject hilarious.But Bernard's bit about "do the maths" was hard to argue with.

I've tried to give my personal opinion of the book there without giving much away to people that haven't read it yet and i feel i haven't given too much away

Thought there would have been a lot more posts on this thread or the forum in general from people giving their thoughts on the book, whether they liked it or not( without giving the story away of course!)Bit odd and strange there's only been a handful of posts.

Going Manc Sunday to get this book and listen to Barney talk. Cheers for not revealing too much mate!

The full transcript of Bernard's hypnosis session with Ian Curtis- wow, that was pretty fucking spooky to read but very,very interesting.What do you make of something like that? I suppose experts or scientists or whoever would dismiss that kind of thing and come up with some explanation about it's not possible to remember under hypnosis or any other method some previous life (if there is such a thing) but my gut reaction is that Bernard really did manage to do that with Ian Curtis.But then again experts would probably say i'm biassed towards Bernard .

Aaargh - I forgot this came out today, I would have perhaps bought it in hardback, but anyway have now got the kindle version. Whatever, real books can be hard work after kindle - though I'll eventually get it in paperback at least, so as to have something to hold onto. It seems very readable, perhaps more so than Morrissey's Autobiography which I read whenever I'm in the dentist waiting room as there seems to be no 3G there. I'm still only 23% of the way through.

I see someone has already put up a silly review on Amazon - though this is now perhaps a tradition and only to be expected.

Agreed, I've picked it up and put it down about 15 times. I'm now 3/4 of the way through and have read two other books in between, since I started it.

I'll read Bernard's Book before I finish the Morrissey one.

Bernard on Radio 4 today.

Well, Bernard's almost as interview-happy as Hooky these days. By the time Steve gets round to his book we'll be wishing it was the quiet 80's. Lazy people may wish to know that this one starts at 5.45 through to about 14.40.

Went to the Trafalgar Square event on Thursday night, Bernard seemed to be in fine form (among other things, we learnt that LWTUA is his favourite JD song to play live and Temptation the NO one, the real story behind the 'funkier' version of Blue Monday getting deleted, their show in Copenhagen with Miles Davis and that he wasn't too impressed with Hooky calling him a cunt and twatto)

I had a few words with him at the end when he signed my copy of the book and I asked him when we can expect some UK dates - he said they're going to concentrate on the album first which isn't really that much of a surprise, but heres hoping it'll be sooner rather than later, and not propping up the bill on something like that Blur show in Hyde Park which quite honestly was a shambles (forgot to tell him that until I was well clear of the shop)

Bought the hardback today - I was not planning to, but couldn't resist just going to have a look at it in waterstones, and they had signed copies, so that was that. Must've got them up from Glasgow? So now I have a signed 1st edition on my bookshelf. Yay, as they say! And it won't be appearing on amazon collectibles either (some have, can you believe it already!)

Another thing that made me buy it was the photo inside the front and back covers which is the ultra cool one that was in, I think it was Sounds, of him walking along a sidewalk in, I think it was New York, around about 1985-ish, that I don't think anyone is aware of within 100 miles of me. Took me right back to some very different times...
