After some thought I think that Regret is possibly their best choice of an opener for an album....
Cant say that Republic is ny fave album by any means but simply as an album opener it borders perfection.
Thoughts...?

That's a hard one. Most of the album openers are brilliant.

i'd go for Crystal.
All good openers so far. Let's take a look at the flip of this though. How about the last track ? Dream Attack and Leave Me Alone were inspired choices. Every Shite Counts far less so (even worse when SOTN kicks in on the CD !). Avalanche anyone ?

Republic starting on a high and ending like a damb squib
Brotherhood starting with so much energy and passion and ending with the jaded and lethargic syrupy SOTN
fine time... GENIUS!
I don't like republic and I'm not being "well I'll have you know but I bought unknown pleasures when it came out"... I didn't. But I bought Brotherhood. So I've done my tour of duty.
Regret is fantastic, but I have my theories... because Pascal Gabriel originally produced it then Stephen Hague came in. So I think Regret might have been pre- bust up. Because the rest of republic sounds really cobbled together.

Love Vigilanties fer moi, have to agree that all the openers are good, but LV sets up the rest of the album superbly

The only ones I still like live from Get Retro are Crystal (though not when it opens the set) and Close Range.
