Just got a copy of blue monday , the sleeve is just black with patterns down the side , I was wondering if this sleeve was re released after the floppy disk disaster or if it was the inner sleeve for the original cover?

The original was 8 inches in diameter and could be read only in a Floppy Disk Drive.
That seems to be just the inner sleeve. Even the versions without cutout holes had them printed in grey color.
From memory:
1st Pressing: Die cut (floppy disk) outer with plain silver inner sleeve. 2nd Pressing: Die cut (floppy disk) outer with glossy black inner sleeve. 3rd Pressing (yours): Black sleeve with colour code but without die cutting.
