Fantastic new video for Restless ---
has a feel and even some hints of past new order videos,
(i like how the video also reveals how the lyrics like "i want a nice car" are satire --- )

I love the new video and hopefully this allays the [unfounded] fears that there has been any decline in the creative mojo of the New Order core. Granted it is always hard to tell where the band ends and the video artist(s) begin, but this has all the traits of classic New Order -- clever, ironic, sarcastic, visual and unique. Makes me even more psyched about the album.

The video's alright, I like the nods to the past but, well. sorry to say but the song doesn't really blow me away. It's OK, but quite subdued for a 'come back'.
Plus, yeah, the lack of Hooky-bass does make it sound like a Bad Lieutenant/Electronic hybrid[sleepy]
I really like it, both the song and the video. The video seems a bit Game of Thrones melds into PSB's It's a Sin.
Overall, the song sounds a lot like straight off WFTSC, perhaps more than Bad Lieutenant. Hooky's bassline is obviously missing, though I have to admit, I like the chemistry a bit better without him. Musically, that bass does produce a void, but I think there's a certain spark that hasn't been there since, maybe, Technique? I first thought that when I saw them in Boston in 2013, my first show sans Hooky.
blimey. that is embarrassingly shit. its got one original idea in it (the people spinning on a wheel with a fixed camera then buckets of milk chucked upon them) but apart from that... ffs this makes 'ruined in a day' look like a work of genius. Even my lower end students are capable of a more creative work.
and 'nods to the past' which we call in academia 'intertextuality' when used in this sense is just to stroke the ego of the viewer so they feel clever and superior. its not subtle. its not integrated into the story. its just there to try and calm you the fuck down from this travesty.

It looks like Crystal v.2: no band, young kids, all flashy... But here it's just too much of everything, especially for such a sombre song. Something the Pet Shop Boys would have come up with... There are some clever moments but they are easily lost in the overall picture. It definitely did not invoke a desire to watch it over again.

So there are obviously other NO fans who do not share some of the overwhelmingly negative sentiments expressed in this thread.
I like the video a lot, it interprets the lyrics in a visually interesting way. It is indeed very much like a Pet Shop Boys video, brings to mind "It's a Sin". Not a bad thing in my opinion.
It's their best video since Regret. Although I think the edit itself of Here To Stay fits very well with the music.

wat? WTFTSC is in a different league to the other two, probably to do with money. The other two are cheap and lacking in ideas yes, but they are not trying to sell us anything. we already have 1963 and temptation.
WTFTSC isn't brilliant and I worry that the ants bit is a reference to Un Chien Andalou, but its very watchable. Especially towards the end.

*splutters* World is IMO one of their best videos and after the fluff of the regret video. It's like a Mike Leigh film wrapped up in 4 long steadycam takes. And after working abroad as a contractor for a number of years I met all of these people at hotel bars....
why World, in its complete misery, becomes a single is another conversation... perhaps the most miserable song in the charts for the last 20 years?

Don't exaggerate. 'Intertextuality'? That takes me back to my Latin-studying days. Why get pissed and shagged when you could be translating Virgil? Great times. The vid ain't bad. I remember when 'Substance' the VHS came out, 'Smash Hits' said (so it must be true), it kicks off with two vids ('Confusion' and 'Perfect Kiss') that're so bad it's like NO have created an endurance test for their fans. A tad harsh.
I have little idea what the video “means” but the beautiful song is growing on me. To me, videos have always been very secondary to the music, though of course they gain by association as time goes by. Looking for the meaning of life maybe? And I don’t notice that Hooky is not there. If he was there, given the destruction he now seems intent on, could that song have been written? best to forget him. (chance would be a fine thing)
Buggered if know what the video is about. Some link made between the legend of Excalibur (of which i don't know an awful lot about if i'm honest) and society today? Feck knows.What else can i say about it? The young actors and actresses (or are male and females all referred to as 'actors' now?) look very British 18-19 year olds and the fade out cuts short a teeny teeny weeny bit early for my liking.I do like the horses scene at the end though.

The video is perfectly watchable, and I couldn't do any better. However check out the Chemical Brothers video i posted to "What Are You listening To Now" in Behind Closed Doors, 11 days ago. Both videos were released around the same time, and whatever you think about the music, the Chems video is waaay better!

That Chems video is great, as is the track, but that doesn't change how I feel about the Restless vid. Who doesn't want to relive the last Medievel rave they went to?. They're both great vids and whether one is better than the other is anyone's shout.
The Chems have a great long term relationship with the film producer Adam Smith, who makes their vids, all their amazing live visuals, their film 'Don't Think' (a great one to check out if you haven't seen it) and is now even performing on stage with Tom following Ed's departure from gig duties. I can't, off hand, think of a band with a better track record in how they present themselves visually and that's mainly down to Adam Smith so you're setting the bar kinda high.

Yeah I've seen Don't Think - in IMAX with an introduction by Mr Smith. In fact Adam wasn't involved in the making of the Deserted video (he's hardly done any of their promo music videos with the exception of the "Further" stuff, he does the tour visuals). It was a guy called Ninian Doff (!). He's well worth checking out, and has previous form directing Royal Blood's Figure It Out video. There are similar themes in that video as regards who is the hunter or the hunted, victim or perpetrator.
I'm looking forward to Adam's Trespass Against Us film, starring Michael Fassbender, Brendan Gleeson and Sean Harris. It was provisionally slated for a debut at Cannes back in May, but as you say, Adam went on tour with Tom, so post production on the film seems to have been put on ice for now. According to this movie poster the soundtrack will be of the Chemical variety too.

Incidentally rumour has it that Ed may reappear in the Chems live shows towards the end of the year. He's trying to work touring around his Psychology studies where he can. So it kind of depends on where he is on his coursework as to whether he can get out to do live stuff.
I still say the Chems video is better than NO. No contest for me. ps If you like the track, watch out for the forthcoming Skream remix. I think it's better than the original.

Having lived with the song for a while now i've got my head round it a lot more now. Bought some expensive headphones last weekend and the long version on the download sounds really good.Well, really good moments here and there but also a few meh moments, it's a difficult one.There are parts where the song teeters almost on the edge of greatness - there's a part where Bernard sings the "What makes your day?/What miracle of life has come to stay?" bit around just before the 4 minute mark and there's a real spark there.It's a good song but catchy? No not to these ears which is why it baffles me when i've read people say it's a catchy pop song. Good song but a catchy pop song? Each to their own and all that.Fair play to them for being totally contrary and perverse by releasing the , from what we've read, weakest song on the album as first single/album trailer.Instead of showcasing the album's , from what we've read, banging dance/funk/techno/house direction they've gone for a chugging along mid pace guitar song.Brilliant.Takes some balls,that.Hats off to em.

Where the medieval idea come from? I usually have ideas videos as I walk with helmets Madrid. One day I witnessed a fight between teenagers in a square. They jostled, gesticulating and using a very primitive and savage body language. Who are the honorees in Restless? There are references to Excalibur Donner, a person Bergman, the Macbeth Welles, Bob Wilson, Derek Jarman, Larry Clark and syrupy porno 60 and 80.
You started to work with little budget. Now it seems that you add up more accounts. To what extent your essence has been hampered by the lack of insecurity? I'm not no friend of the term low cost. There was a time when I became fashionable and even seemed cool. The low cost is a timely circumstance. We do three-quarters of our videos a year in these conditions because also demand freedom.
When you defend the video more to support that as a genre, what reivindicais? In Spain when you say that music headed people you imagine rolling a singer on white background with dancers and fans. We filmed long ago that not a band playing. Our process is different. We adopt a genre or a discipline to confront him and played with a musical theme. Maybe that's why more work out where the video is still a minor discipline. Here we just call friends who risk and worry about the visual part, as Guadalupe Plata , Iván Ferreiro or Love Of Lesbian .
