These don't exist. Ceremony was re-recorded with Gillian in '81 and was commercially available until Substance was released. EGG was never re-recorded.

87?😕 Anyway, the 7"

Truefaith87 wrote: Everything's gone green: 12" or 87

87? Again, can't think of an 87 version😕 Prefer live versions of EGG; Kilkenny 83 or Tolworth from the same year but if we're restricted to studio versions the 1981 12"

Always a difficult one and again, prefer many live versions but studio wise the 1982 12" lately. There's also the 98 mix that you haven't listed but is worth a spin now and then.

I actually would go for the 7" with this one; always found it flows better into the chorus than the album version and love Hooky's playing on the outro

I'm sure the outro to EGG on substance (87) is different to the 12" And ceremony was re recorded for substance aswell

Ceremony was NOT re recorded for Substance. The version is re recorded yeah but it was re recorded in 1981 to include Gillian on guitar .The original ( that is the 7") did not feature Gillian.

The outro to EGG on Substance is different to the 12" ? News to me

I PREFER LIVE VERSIONS

To save space a bit: I almost always prefer the 12" versions of Neworder songs. I consider these to be the definitive versions & "edit" is a swear word to me.

The full TPK is like a modern day symphony. With frogs. The edit is just shite & misses the true majesty of the song.

One of the slight disappointments with GR & Sirens was that the songs for the most part seemed to be 4 minute affairs. (Even the ones I really like.)

The apparent return to longer songs on MC & the 'availability' of extended versions of every track is a true return to form - in my view.

For me the choice is between the Substance edit of the 12" or the 7". And that depends on my mood.

I may be in the minority on this one...

Everything's Gone Green is the 12" version from 1981 - no changes.

Ceremony is the re-recorded version from 1981 featuring Gillian - also no changes.

The best versions, of course, are the remixes you can find on https://www.mixcloud.com/mrmarkreed/

I threw together the A/B-side 12" mixes into one great big huge track in most cases for "Blue Monday", "Confusion" (1983, and 1987), "The Perfect Kiss", "Subculture", "Bizarre Love Triangle", "True Faith", "TBHOG", "Fine Time", "Round & Round", "Regret", "World", "Spooky", and "Krafty".

I'm not so well versed in the 'inch' versions, but Substance to me is the definitive, because it's the NO versions that got played on the radio on WLIR in NY when I was growing up and the album I've played pretty much ceaselessly for the better part of the decades since. The one exception may be Shellshock - the Pretty in Pink version has an extra verse and I prefer it (b/c Pretty in Pnk actually was the first album I bought with an NO song (as well as Smiths & Bunnymen). In all the either cases (not substance) I prefer the 12-inch.

That verse is on the 12" version of Shellshock. Unfortunately, it didn't make the cut on the edited down version included on Substance.

Ceremony: I think the 2nd recording is the definitive version but I prefer the original (probably because it's the 1st version I heard)

Everything's Gone Green: Obviously the 12"

Temptation: Original 12" (Love that the current live version includes those percolating synths)

Blue Monday: Original 12" (I like the dubby, '95 Andrea mix, though)

Confusion: 1987

The Perfect Kiss: Original 12"

Sub-Culture: Low-Life

Shellshock: Original 12"

State of the Nation: 12" (Shame...? Not so much)

Bizarre Love Triangle: Brotherhood

True Faith: Original 12"

Touched by the Hand of God: 12" (But the original Salvation! version is nice for being a bit more pure)

Fine Time: Technique (Fine Line comes close)

Round & Round: 12" (The Stephen Hague mix is the definitive version for me. The Ben Grosse mix is superb, also)

Amazing. Listening to BLT as I write. I was thinking of attempting something like this combining the various versions of Tutti Frutti - but now I think I might just wait to see what you come up with!

I'm letting Music Complete sit a bit before I do much with these. I like the extended mixes, so not sure I can do much with them, I'll be doing some serious listening.

If you need download links, I can send you a PM.

Ceremony - Second version with Gillian. It just sounds more musically refined and Bernard has a better vocal range on it.

EGG (AKA Green Monday) - 12 inch version

Temptation - Original 7 inch followed by the 87 rerecording. The 12 inch drags on a bit too long for me without enough variation.

Blue Monday - Original 12 inch followed by the 7 inch 88 version. All the extended 88 versions annoy me.

Confusion - Original 12 inch. I'm a big fan of Arthur Baker's early hip-hop productions, so I feel the song was changed too drastically on the 87 version.

The Perfect Kiss - 12 inch perfection. That sloppy "wuh!" edit where the break lyrics get cut out always bothers me on the album version.

Sub-Culture: Low-Life version. The sync track for the bass sequence is off by half a beat on the single versions, which totally screws with my head. I like the last minute and a half of Dub Vulture though, but only because it sounds like the remix is being set on fire. 😈

Shellshock - Pretty in Pink version. Doesn't contain those choppy edits or overstay its welcome.

State of the Nation - 12 inch A-side version. My favorite lyrics from this song were removed on the 7 inch edit [:(]

BLT - Album version, then the 12" dub

True Faith - The standard version which appears on Substance, then 12" dub

TBHOG - 7 inch version, then the 12" dub

Fine Time - Album version, then the 12" Silk Mix

Round & Round - Album version, then the 7 inch mix

Run - Album version, then the 7 inch mix
