Well the UK Record Store Day 2016 list is out and it doesn't seem that Joy Division/New Order/Side Projects are getting a look in this year.

I'm personally not too bothered due to 2015 being a particularly expensive year what with Music Complete, the new singles, gigs, flights, trains, taxis etc. loadsamoney basically. I'm wagering at least few other fans out there probably feel the same way. There comes a time when the bank account needs to cool down. The only tenuously related items seem to be a Grace Jones reissue featuring her cover of She's Lost Control and a Blossoms reissue featuring their cover of Electronic's Getting Away With It. Knock yourselves out with those if interested.

I may make the effort for the 808 State, James, Ian Brown and Public Service Broadcasting items. Or not.

I (of course) love record shops but RSD has been going the way of the touts for a while now now. It seems built for Ebay.

Haven't checked the USA version yet so perhaps one of our American brethren could do so? (Mr Andy?)

Well you say those are the only ones... I think I found another: Ceremony by Wussy. I believe it is that Ceremony. And if you want to push it further, a band who had a guest appearance from Bernard also has something on the list (without Bernard), i.e. Primal Scream. And a band whose singer's favourite album is PCL is also on there, namely the Charlatans. Ok, I'll stop now.

Made the effort this year and went to Swordfish Records in Birmingham.This was made slightly more difficult than i'd planned as the shop has moved premises since i last visited a few years ago and was a job to find til i resorted to google maps.It used to be up one of those narrow roads off New Street in the city centre but is now a bit further out and hidden in Dalton St;a back street near the Law Courts off the far end of Corporation St.Near to The Q Club or what used to be The Q Club , dunno if it still is,and where i saw The Orb and Banco De Gaia live back in the 90s.The new Swordfish premises are even smaller than the old one where they did business for nearly 20 years.But their stock does seem to have improved with the move.Before it was mainly old 70s prog records or folk & psychedelia.They seem to have upped their game now even though they have less space.They've got a much wider range of genres now and most of JD & NO's albums on vinyl and odd copies of Confusion 12" and Thieves Like Us 12".

My first attempt at the store was early afternoon but proved too difficult and frustrating - the place was bloody busy and not only that it appeared half the people in there were wearing fuck off big ruck sacks on the their back which made an already hard job to squeeze past in the narrow aisles impossible.These back pack wearing knob 'eads were all young 20 somethings who didn't seem to have a clue their back packs were making it impossible for people to get by and to other racks in the shop.Maybe that was the idea , I couldn't get anywhere near the RSD section and decided to give up and try again later.

Came back about 5pm and things were much easier.Had a good browse round.I spotted the Record Store Day special reissue edition quadruple vinyl of The Orb's Adventures In The Ultraworld.It was in that new fangled (maybe it's not so new, dunno)vinyl pressing technique - what's it called again? Something to do with it's pressed at half the speed or something so to produce a superior sound quality? Anyway the edition was £55 and i couldn't justify buying it as i don't have a really sophisticated and expensive turntable so the superior vinyl sound would only be lost and wasted on it .

In the end i bought Chvrches Every Open Eye album on vinyl for £20.Not a special edition for RSD but i went today with half a mind on buying it if i saw it so i was happy to snap up a copy.Got home and it turns out the vinyl is white (or cream even?) .Bit miffed there's no download code though, or at least i haven't found it yet.Fantastic album nevertheless.

It was the usual bun fight/ long queues in London yesterday around soho and Brick Lane.

Having queued to get into perhaps the flagship of Indie record stores in London, I found they only had one of the three items I was looking for. One of the extra employees helping out told me that the staff had bought some of the stock for themselves on Friday night. Tut tut!! Obviously this is hearsay which is why I haven't mentioned the shop name... But the good news is that after another long queue outside dance music specialists Phonica I got the other two items I was looking for. I got: Primal Scream: Mantra For A State Of Mind. A real improvement on the original by S Express.

The Charlatans: Trouble Understanding (Norman Cook remix)

Ecstasy Club: Jesus Loves The Acid (2016 remaster and remix) on picture disc

For me, the Primals was essential, the Charlatans was nice and the Ecstasy Club was a complete indulgence. And it all cost far too much. But hey, that's the spirit of Record Store Day! [:)]

^^ Yes i think that Ecstasy Club track's original 1988 release and the re release for Record Store Day was on the label run by the same guys who run Swordfish Records , the shop i went to in Birmingham on Saturday.They run their label Swordfish.

Mad with myself yesterday when i remembered a couple of other record shops in Birmingham i've been to before but forgot to check out on Saturday; one is The Diskery and the other Music & Video Exchange.There is also a record stall in the Oasis indoor market on Corporation St which i did try to have a look at on Saturday but again the big backpack gang were doing their utmost again to block everyone else out.The stall is run by a guy who used to work in a great record shop in Birmingham called Tempest Records which sadly closed a few years back.A shame as it was a great little shop.There was also a great second hand record shop in Birmingham i used to visit in years gone by but that too is no longer [:(]
