Not heard this yet, but the guy who did the Bowie: 2001 remix project a couple of years ago has just done remix of Music Complete for free download, as far as I can see. Over here.

Interesting.Thanks.

You have to sign up with an email address and are then emailed a link to verification then you'll get a second email with link to the download of the remixes .Not started listening yet as waiting for email with the remixes.

edit: Received the email with "Here is your free download" but there is no download and no link to download.Oh well.Nevermind.As you were.

Turns out it's not officially "released" until this Friday, so maybe the link will start working then.

Edit: actually, I just found the verification email, it was lurking in my spam folder. The link included worked for me: I've downloaded a zip file that opens as a folder full of mp3s of the tracks. I've still not listened to it, so don't know if it's any use, but it seems to be working.

It is indeed working. Both emails went to my Junk folder. The second one entitled "Here's your free download" has a red bar/button thingy with "Here are your files:Music Remixed" . That's immediately below the words "Welcome and thanks for listening". It's in 192 kbps which isn't brilliant.

The remixes themselves all sound professsional. However -so far- none of them are an improvement on the originals. I've had a quick skip through the whole thing. Sometimes it's the tracks that you don't like so much which have the greatest potential to impress in remixed form. But The Game still sounds horrible. In fact it's the worst remix on here. So now it's REALLY horrible! I guess it's an interesting curiosity, but like a lot of remixed tracks, I suspect the 'album' is perhaps only worth a couple of listens.

Nope, not here anyway. In the "Here's your free download" email i received there is a button with "Take our survey now" that takes me to https://www.test.com/ instead of a button saying "Here are your files:Music Remixed".

I have no button saying "Here are your files:Music Remixed"

The red button below "Welcome and thanks for listening" looks like this

Nevermind.

I got it to download OK but it really isn't all that good.

A nice idea, with nice & simple artwork and though it maybe to others' tastes more than mine, I'll probably not listen to it again.

Odd. I didn't get the "take our survey" bit. That's where the DL should be though.

Is this official, or just some dodgy overdubbed/re-edited bootleg?

can someone just post a link, without having to go through all the email, posting hassle.

want to check it out, just for kicks, but it sounds like it's a pain in the neck. or just send me a pm with the link.

honestly, i made instrumental versions of all the tracks, and that's really all i've been listening to lately.

even the bad songs sound decent that way.

i was going to post them at some point, but not sure if anyone is interested. i could send you a pm with a link if interested.

also, was going to do some alternate versions of the tracks, just removing the bass/keyboards/drums alternatively versions. some sound quite decent.

It seems it was too hard to give a simple link to download the file. 😕 Is the NO store behind this total mess once again???[:d]

What do you think about the titles?

-1: FWIW, I would have been very interested in the instrumentals - I stumbled upon the Academic instrumental someone (you?) kindly put together when filing these new fanmixed MP3s yesterday & ended up listening to it most of the day.

Beautiful.

+1 for the instrumentals, please.

Still not listened to these other ones properly, but from what I've heard so far tending to agree with the ...meh reactions. But I'll set stime aside to listen to them properly, even if it's just the once.

Same here. And nothing in my spam folder.

Are they actual remixes, or just re-edits/overdubs of the CD tracks?

They're full remixes, with some new instrumentation.

He's put a lot of work into it (little details, beats from Confusion turn up in Tutti Frutti), but mostly the effect is to drain all the energy out of the tracks, I think. And he doesn't seem to like the idea of the guitar very much.

Guess that makes them official remixes then??

No, I don't think this is an official project. I guess he's used the stems that were made availabe, though. But this is just my guess.

Well petezarustica, as you provided this unlisted video link...

petezarustica wrote: There's a video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iByj-q2CXeM

...I'm guessing you either are or know Fritz von Runte. Care to comment? I can't remember, was the whole album released as STEMS with isolated vocals? (Actually it was only Academic & Tutti wasn't it. But if you have the instrumentals you can offset them to the originals and isolate the vocals - I think. I've never done it...)

The video URL was in the press pack, on the website.

They are completely unofficial.

I was maybe a bit harsh in my original opinion of the remixes but have been so busy this week i only listened to three quarters of the remix album once and even then it was only on in the background whilst i was busy.Should give it all a second listen but not that excited about it as it didn't leave a great impression if only on partial listening the other day.

ok, thanks to fellow forum member, finally got to hear this.

some are decent, others are a little too radical or long for my taste.

still, have to applaud the effort.

in the process of sorting out my instrumentals now.

I'm surprised by how much I'm enjoying it actually :)

Never got the emails… should I keep trying?

Loved the 2001 mix, still play it with some regularity… good that it includes the (too often overlooked) Heathen stuff.

Yes. We were given access to the open master via official channels. I have to admit my bemusement with the obsession some fans have in discovering if something is "official"or not — like it makes a difference in the final result. It was the same when we did Freebass 5 years ago. Either one enjoys it or one doesn't right? In any case, the 100 limited edition CDs we're allowed to run are almost gone and some of you are going to have a good surprise with the bonus tracks.

Aha. Thanks for coming back. I haven't heard your Beatles stuff, but I'm guessing you weren't given access in that case. Did the Bowie stuff open doors for you?

petezarustica wrote: I have to admit my bemusement with the obsession some fans have in discovering if something is "official"or not — like it makes a difference in the final result.

I think people who haven't/hadn't heard it thought it would make a difference. Why? Because lots of people have done cut and paste remixes unofficially in the past - without access to masters, and the results were not always easy on the ear. It's not worth trying to keep up with every unofficial remix out there - life is short. Plus you're competing with the likes of Erol Alkan, Weatherall, Hot Chip and Hybrid who -I think- set a pretty high standard with their official remixes.

petezarustica wrote: It was the same when we did Freebass 5 years ago.

Was that just the one track on THIS COMPILATION (which also features The Other Two)? I've heard your Dire Straits remix on your Youtube channel but would be curious to hear The Chems and Smiths. With nothing currently available on Discogs, is there a way to hear them?

Incidentally, even though it's very different, Nothing But a Fool kinda works as a more stripped down track. It's almost as though you were going for a chill-out vibe on some of these. (It's not cool to say chill-out anymore is it? Ha.) However, I think it's always going to be a big ask for anyone to remix a whole album and make it sound better than the original artist (and their collaborators/helpers). There was a collective of remixers about ten years ago who did Screamixadelica and Flip The Switch - i.e the Primals (obvs) and Chemical Brothers' Push The Button. I felt the same thing then - it's difficult to improve a whole album, but listening to one or two remixed tracks at a time can be more rewarding.
