What´s your favourite PC&L song?

Very tough deciding on the big 3. All were worthy but Your Silent Face is perfect NewOrder.

Blue Monday comes as a bonus track on some versions of PCL (American releases on Qwest if I'm not wrong), but it wasn't part of the original release (neither on vynil nor on CD). On a very similar way, Love Vigilantes is not part of Retro, though future releases might include it for commercial purposes :D

got it!!!..my copy is from qwest...hmmm...at least qwest didn't put SOTN on Brotherhood...okay...time to play stupid American again!!! thanks... GRIGORI...that is one CD i STILL have not got...so that's 403 - 1 to me only you TEXAN TROLLOP!:D You will be remembered in my will though and even if you lose em at least you could say you had em for a while.Not sure i could trust you with the DRY MATCHES(black/white) edition.

Ecstasy gets my vote. I'm sure there'd be a collective 'HUH' if they ever did perform it live.

i travelled through several live recordings this weekend and i must say "Ultraviolence" is a live-cracker!

• Steves robotic / energetic drumming
• Gillian's synth sound

yeah, "Age of Consent" is New Order in a nutshell (i hate that cliche). Bernard's style of lyrics (serious? toungue in cheek? meaningful? meaningless? all of the above! classic.) Stevie Morris's urgent percussion! The classic style Hooky bass! Bernard's classic nervous guitar style! Countered perfectly with the emotional synths! All in one song.

Leave me Alone is great. Your Silent Face is great. i always like the 5.8.6. on the Peel sessions better, but you gotta love the end with toy piano solo, the beats, exhaustedly coming to an stop. and the bizarre inappropiate bass noise at the beginning, the excitment of messing around in the studio.

Leave Me Alone was my pick.

I won't go on about it in my usual fashion because it's PCL, my favorite New Order album and I love almost every song and I could go on forever. I voted for Age of Consent, pure bliss! Probably the first New Order song I ever heard and I still can't comprehend the peculiar magical feeling this song incuces. Great bassline, great guitar parts, lovely synth parts, beautiful in every way, even Barney's whoop isn't too bad here.

But I have to mention The Village (so vibrant!) and Ultraviolence (fabulous rhythms, Steve is so fantastic), and the oft-mentioned KW1 and Leave Me Alone (beautiful guitar, Barney is a perfectly fine guitar player as far as I'm concerned.)

I dunno, I really like Ecstasy for some reason, interesting to listen to, then Leave Me Alone is so amazing, great way to end the album. (I try to turn it off before The Beach)

It's got to be Age of consent. If only for the bassline. They must play this live on the next tour.

Such a hard one - 3 GREAT songs on one CD - Age, YSF, and LMA - dang it was a hard fought battle but YSF barely edges the comp out.

No surprise: Leave Me A Loan. AOC is excellent, as is 586, but LMA is really unique, in my opinion.

How much do you have? As I've said before, I think "I Want to be a Loan" is the all-time best NO song.

Is it the lyrics?

I'd definitely put it top 5 of all time.

Leave Me Alone. Surprised and delighted to see so many in agreement with the choice. It's also in my top 3 all time NO tracks. The best closing song on an album....ever!

I'm glad you considered that reply Patrick. I wouldn't have liked you to have rushed an answer on such a beautiful subject matter.

The rush of melodic guitar melodies towards the end of the record is a definite highlight for me. The actual recording of Bernard's voice, cold and full, spacious yet close, is yet another attraction. Coupled with the simplistic drumming and fusion of Bass.

Well, Mr. H, to tell the truth, I hadn't seen your question until just now, but you're right, the perfection of LMA deserves long study. I think we have said before that NO songs can be good despite mediocre lyrics, but when the lyrics are good as well, that definitely increases the quality level. I think that is true with LMA, which probably would have been superb with any lyrics, but with the actual lyrics, becomes something that is utterly transcendent.

Anyone else think that the production of PC&L is way ahead of any of their other albums ? It seems to have a timeless sound whereas the others are all pretty grounded in the time of recording.

Now this is going to be difficult. I love your "Your Silent Face" and "Leave Me Alone" but I'm going to have to go with "Age of Consent". Love the bass and synths in that song!

586 very danceable, peel sessions version kicks a*!

5 8 6 on the Peels sessions is incredible, the PCL version is ruined by that anemic 90 second crap intro. Leave Me Alone is a titanic recording as well. Just incredible, from the drum track, to the bass playing and guitar playing, to the simple, yet complex lyrics....I used to wonder if there were hidden references to the Falklands in the lyrics even if Barney wasn't political:

"On a thousand islands in the sea I see a thousand people just like me A hundred unions in the snow I watch them walking, falling in a row We live always underground It's going to be so quiet in here tonight A thousand islands in the sea It's the same

And a hundred years ago a sailor trot this ground I stood upon Take me away everyone But, it hurts thou"

I kept trying to figure out what this might mean, and I wondered if it vaguely referred to British Colonialism and the Falklands wore, and then I figured I was just trippin'. That being said, It's an incredible song, regardless of what the actual meaning is, if there is any special meaning, to the lyrics. However, my favorite song on the album, and in actuality, my all time favorite New Order song, is Age of Consent, with its wonderfully aggressive guitar and bass playing, its stunningly beautiful synths, and its melancholic lyrics. PCL gets a lot of its rep from those two songs, and the third masterpiece of beauty and humor, "Your Silent Face."

5 8 6 is an interesting track, along with prime 586 (video 586)..

Age of Consent without a doubt : a live fave during the mid 80s that just got everyone going. YSF is an undoubted classic. I must be one of the very few NO fans around who never really related Leave Me Alone (shoot me now... ;))

Age Of Consent - Classic My all time favourite.

Leave Me Alone is possibly the single best album ending song ever. The whole of PCL makes "best song" a tough call. I'd put the Village, Your Silent Face, Age of Consent, 586, and Ultraviolence close seconds. I leave Blue Monday and the Beach as singles since they weren't on the original album release.

Your Silent Face. The outstanding centrepiece to an otherwise average album (By NO standards).

1- Your Silent Face 2- Leave Me Alone 3- The Village 4- the rest The difference between 1-3 is minimal though; Tomorrow The Village may be on top for some reason.

5 8 6 and Leave Me Alone are my favorites.
