Frickin' Spammers

Wasn't this issue the reason why the old version of the forum moved to this version?

I used to occasionally take a look at the Primals' Webadelica forum (which appears to have bitten the dust in recent months). I wasn't a member but I noticed there was a note from the administrator saying "I've switched off registration due to clever spammers, send me a message if you want to sign up". I wonder if it's time to do something similar here? The Nike stuff is getting annoying. The only Huarache's I'm interested in are these (yes, this song is about trainers/sneakers):

Actually a Pandora bracelet with NO FAC icons would be pretty cool...leaf, little Louie, floppy disk, vase of flowers, question mark, life preserver

A sad state of affairs the forum has become what with all the spamming and even without the spamming the place is pretty quiet to put it mildly. A shame when you think how busy, mad , fun and crazy the old forum used to be around 2002 to 2006. There was a new thread or argument or just plain daft ness every few minutes. A right old laff. The beginning of the end came with everyone deserting the place in favour of Facebook circa 2007 onwards and later Twitter.

I've been on holiday this week and as a result not checking the forums. Just got back today and purged all of those spam posts/accounts.

It's a thankless task and I'm not entirely sure why we can't make the forums more impenetrable to this type of shite. Utterly bored of cleaning up after them.

I agree that membership should probably be frozen again for a while. I'll run it by Spotnick and see what we can do.

I don't know who'd open one of the the spam threads to have a look , let alone be stupid enough to actually click on the links in them to try and buy something.

I got an unwanted Monty python sketch in my inbox. Must be Spam.

Their ears must be burning as two further accounts appeared just this morning spewing out a further 9 threads.

As I said, utterly bored of clearing up after them. I think a membership freeze is the only way forward for the moment.

Fucking hell, someone has been busy posting shite on here over the last 24 hours, you'd think they'd have realised by now they're not going to get a single sale of their shite knock off trainers by posting this crap all over the place (no one is going to tell me they've actually paid for any of these shit plimsolls, are they?)

That's the biggest spam influx I've seen so far and sort of proves that the current registration system is not fit for purpose. Again a pain in the f*cking arse for me to clear up.

I have messaged Spotnick now and asked him to pause new user registrations as soon as possible. We will re-enable either when the registration system is more robust or another album comes out.

Like you I am hoping we won't see any more of this soon...

Let's see if what I did will work, but it also blocks new people from posting unless we promote them.

I guess I need to update the software, the captcha is no longer strong enough.

I hope it's the first. The doctor says I only have 40 more years to live.

Crikey. More spam. Including a poll this time. About 'Love'.

Gotta be a joke about 'Love Poll' somewhere?

seems to work now, problem is legit people won't be able to post unless promoted.. guess we'll see if in a couple of days the bots vanish... who knows.
