INTERNATIONAL'S MISTAKES

As I feared, I just couldn't avoid buying the thing. The sleeve, as we all know, is absolute shit, complete with an awful logo in the inner booklet and on the CD's surface. But the best thing about it is that NO kept their old trade mark: the booklet is full of mistakes! For instance: a)BLT is listed as "1987 Factory Records": as we all know it was released in 1986 (and why the "extended dance mix" tag? "12" mix" suits it much better!) b)And guess what? Turns out that "Thieves like us" was written by "Arthur Baker, Baker, Gilbert, Hook, Morris, Sumner": who's the second "Baker"? Arthur's dad? c)Almost all the tracks have writing credits given to the individual members of NO, in good old alphabetical order (Gilbert, Hook, Morris & Sumner) but the Get Ready tracks and HTS have a "Written by New Order" credit! d) Pascal Gabriel was, if "Republic" and "Regret"'s booklets are to be believed, responsable for "Regret"'s "pre-production"... but on "International" he has a co-production credit!

And... not a mistake (I think!), but the design is credited to "Saville Associates"!

You know what Jorge? I resisted the urge! I was this Sunday at the FNAC and they have this excellent display with plenty of copies of International. And I did not buy it! I will either buy the French one or wait till I can get it half price after Xmas.

The credits in the "Get Ready"-album and on the "Here To Stay"-single, both list "written by New Order". Seems there's a bit of "don't know if Gillian's still in the band" kinda thing.

The "extended dance mix" tag for BLT was also used on the original Qwest maxi-single CD of BLT. So it's not a mistake: they kept the original (American) denomination.

A mistake nonetheless... the Q-West release (wich I also own) is NOT the original release, is it? To be honest, the Factory 12" has no specific tag, so the "12" inch mix" or even "Shep Pettibone remix" would be more appropriate, wouldn't it?

By the way, last night I found another mistake: one of the tracks (can't remember wich one, but I think it's Round & round..) has "written by" written TWO times! Now don't get me wrong, I don't think NO are the real responsables for this sorry mess, but don't you think that London Records, a branch of the world's biggest media company (AOL-we-bought-Time-Warner-without-spending a-single-dollar), should be more carefull with it's own products? It's just not a fan thing, you know? It's wanting to be rightfully treated when buying something, even if it's a lousy CD! I rest my case... Gillian, Hooky, Barney & Steve: PLEASE START YOUR OWN LABEL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is Temptation listed anywhere as being written by Bernard Sumner and New Order ? Mindful of his Finsbury comments.....

As BOWIE once said "JUMP THEY SAY". I know where JORGE is coming from but it is a long and boring nightmare what all the remixes,who wrote what and WHY,actually all mean!Add the influence of a bit of SUBSTANCE and at the time and it is remarkable anyone remembers anything from the 80's onwards.:D Just listen to the music JORGE or you will end up like meAnd you wouldn't like that now...would YOU?

Mistakes are commonplace in the printing trade so let's not get too carried away.

I've only ever been annoyed at one thing NO have released, the CD of Low-Life with the 'courier' default typeface in place of the original Saville classic. This is a bit much and seemingly yet to be rectified. This is detrimental to the design, rather than a minor typo which is most probably down to the design house or a disassociated individual.

Oh, english humour! Well, I'm sober now, but still hate buying error-ridden things. By the way, let me be annoying till the end, another mistake: "Round & round" is the 94 version, twinkled by Mr. Stephen "glossy production" Hague... with no mention of him on the credits, just the "produced by New Order" bit!

And you know what else is infuriating me no end? In the Here to Stay credits, New Order's collaborators are credited as "Chemical Brothers". Just that! "Chemical Brothers". If you check their official website, it's stated, clear as daylight, they are called "THE Chemical Brothers".

Did they train up the London office monkey to type the credits or what?

Yes, I have remarked that too. 3'26 is the time for Mesh and not for Cries and Whispers (3'00). People who made International or the Retro Box are not obviously New Order fans.
