PUNK!

Did anyone here from Canada catch that muchmoremusic marquee special on punk music last night? it came after the bio on the clash...it had performances from the buzzcocks, clash, siouxsie and the banshees, iggy pop, undertones, sex pistols, etc...(they should've scrapped iggy pop and put on more sex pistols and included the damned at least)

anyways, the last performance was joy division doing shadowplay...i think that was their official video for the song...great guitars by albrecht and hooky...it struck me odd that they were considered as part of the punk movement cuzz they hardly had any riffs in their songs compared to the hardcore punk acts back then...

It was hosted by a guy named anthony wilson...is this the tony wilson that screwed new order? if it is him, is that why joy division was included?

The performance of Shadowplay you refer to was actually an appearance on a T.V. show Wilson was involved with at the time, I don't remember its name but I still have the punk documentary you saw on video, its been a few years since I last watched it, I think i'll dig it out now, I feel all nostalgic all of a sudden.......................

Joy Division were considered to be the beginning of what was labelled 'post punk', that mystical phase when punk became more disciplined and bands like Joy Division, The Clash, The Banshees etc. began to experiment with new sounds and technologies. The results of course are the stuff of legends.
