Yes, saw this was announced.Don't think i'll bother but i'll certainly snap up Steve's book.It's released Feb 2019?

Mine arrived today from Amazon - it looks lovely. I hadn't really appreciated from the photos that the cover would be mirrored, and the light dances of it very nicely
Only had a thumb through so far and it does appear that most of the content is taken from interviews that they did for the Grant Gee documentary (which leads to a typo in the credits that says those interviews took place in 2016 - I don't *think* they interviewed Tony Wilson in 2016 somehow)
Should be good - as they obviously only used the best soundbites in the film, lots more interesting stuff to read. Pretty sure after this one and Stephen Morris's book there can't possibly be anything left to be said on Joy Division?

Reading the Guardian/Observer extract above, that was my thought - it's like a book version of that film. But I couldn't be sure just from the extract.
It's already been translated into Italian and when I came across a copy I couldn't resist. Despite the cringeworthy title, it didn[t seem as bad as I expected i.e. interviews and fact instead of his usual sub Morley drivel... But yeah, this is one story I can't be bothered to go through again, especially if the interviews aren't even new. The doc tells you pretty much everything.
Can’t see the point of this book. It’s all been documented enough times and if most of the stuff in this is just repeating what was Grant Gee’s ( brilliant) film, well.... i could just watch that again. I’ve read enough JD books over the years.The last one was Morley’s Piece By Piece which was just a collection of old iinterviews and think pieces most of which I’d managed to read well before. I never finished that book so doubt I’d finish Savage’s.
Got this the same day (yesterday) as the movement box set. Plenty of material to digest. Book looks great. Some quotes I’ve not read before I think, but my memory can’t remember every quote I’ve ever heard so nice to have them all in one book
Ifr anyone STILL (see what I..) needs to go through this story, I'd recommend the Brown Owl doc - and if you're STILL (yes) not satisfied, the DVD has lots of featurettes. There are so many duff DVDs out there, like Under Review. You can always tell a doc's unauthorised because:
- They rarely interview he proverbial horse's mouth, rather someone who lived next to someone who heard of someone who didn't meet someone who went to school with a member of a youth club that once sold their roadie a cat.
- There are tiny clips of the band, cut after 30 sex (so they avoid paying copyright) and spread across the whole prog (so you get the impression there's more).
- It says 'unauthorised' on the cover. My personal favourite was 'Spice Power' - not even worth the 5 Euro price tag.
That Grant Gee documentary is superb. Wish he’d do a similar NO one.
The only thing I’d wished about the JD one is if the DVD had included the complete footage of the stuff that they showed clips of (i.e. the ‘What’s On’ performance of ‘She’s Lost Control’ and, especially, the Whitehead film).
Maybe a Special Edition could be released with the footage included. I can but dream...
Stick with the authoritative: JD, Beatles' Anthology, Filth and Fury. The rest is for completits only

It said on the cover that it was excerpts from the new Jon Savage book - so I don't bother buying the mag (as I have the book). Can anyone confirm if there is any additional material, not from the book?
An oral history. Sounds like a blow by blow account. So a rip off from the book which is a rip off from the doc.

I don't normally read The Spectator but it seems Manchester based Clinton Heylin is a decent enough writer who has books about Bob Dylan, Van Morrison and others under his belt. Anyway here's a sort-of-review of the book which manages to be interesting because of Heylin's own style/knowledge. Perhaps he should have done the book instead of Savage? EDIT: he already did in 1987 with Form & Substance. For some reason this article is dated 8th of June, but today is the 7th.
