True Dub

Goes on too long at the end. I used to like Poppybone but it's seriously dated and I'l stick with the original and best.

The most interesting thing about the Touched... CD single was the exclusive Confusion Dub, but I'm sure you all knew that. What a rip-off 94 / 95 turned out to be - the only mixes that offered both full-on lyrics and radically different music were TF-Perfecto and 1963-Baker / Vannelli. No wonder I lost interest (and money). My personal favourite was tracking down Lionrock's 3rd 1963 mix on 12", only to find that it, too, had fuck all to do with the song.

Lionrock perhaps took Aphex Twin's attitude to remixing.I recall an interview with Richard D James where he said one time he'd been asked to do a remix for someone but forgot all about it.When a courier came to James' house a few weeks later to pick up the remix master, a just got out of bed and befuddled James' realised he'd forgotten to do the remix and just picked a random unreleased track from his personal recordings and handed to the courier.

To be fair, Liarcock's trax were OK in their own right, but still a total and utter fucking rip-off cos they were released under the NO banner. This made me laugh. Thanks Michael. I feel your pain and had similar concerns myself.

1993-95 is a drab period in NO history. Putting ‘Republic’ to one side (which does have a few bright moments), there’s very little decent ‘extra’ material from the period.

In my opinion, the only things that spring to mind are:

‘Vicious Circle’ (reasonable b-side); ‘Let’s Go’ (a pretty great bonus track); The New Order mix of ‘Regret’; the Arthur Baker remix of 1963 (not as good as the original but still interesting, especially with the ‘new’ basslines).

There’s a handful of other remixes (Perfecto mixes of ‘True Faith’ and ‘World’, Ambient and Reunited remixes of ‘Ruined In A Day’, Hardfloor mix of BM95 plus maybe a couple of others) that are pretty good. But most of the rest of the stuff was gumpf; nothing to do with the band.

The mixes of ‘Regret’ were mostly bad. The ‘1963’ and ‘Ruined In A Day’ mixes were just dreadful (excepting those ones mentioned above). And don’t get me started on those ‘(rest of)’ remixes. Much like Michael had with the Lionrock remixes, I felt massively ripped off buying different formats just to get different remixes, only to find they were all shit.

Back in my virgin uni days I made cassettes of every track and I'd only include a mix if it had both different music and the full lyric. It was fairly plain sailing through Factory, but 93 - 95 gave me: REGRET 7", Fire Island RIAD LP, K-Klass, Ambient, Dance Anal Groove Vicious Menstrual Cycle NO Mix WORLD Perfecto, Brothers, K-Klass SPOOKY Stadium, Fluke Minimix, Out Of Order Ev Ev live off NOStory 2nd side straight off the LP... The ony Best / Rest Of to earn their keep were TF Perfecto, 1963 Arthur Baker and Joe T Vanelli, and BM Andrea. Hardfloor was good but too derivative of the oroinal. I was such a sad little wanker. Now I'm a sad big wanker.

Not the mislabelled Tall Paul 'Eschreamer Dub' as erroneously featured the Brotherhood (Collector's Edition) a decade ago this is the full 10 minute Shep Pettibone dub.

At. Long. Frigging. Last.

There have been numerous vinyl transfers over the years including a superb effort included in the Recycle project... but it's nice to finally have an official one of sorts.

Blank & Jones have helped in the release of a few obscure NO mixes on CD over the years; the full Shellshock 12" and Touched By The Hand Of Dub (12") to name two.

Not bad masterings either.
