Perfecto Mixes - videos available?

Does anyone know whether there were official videos for the Perfecto Mixes of either 'True Faith' or 'World'?

I have a vague memory of seeing a video for the Perfecto Mix of 'True Faith' back in the day on MTV / VH-1, but I can't be absolutely sure. I seem to think it had additional footage from the standard video interspersed into it.

I may have just dreamt it though or maybe I'm confusing it with the additional bits used on the (best of) video as interstitials.

I've also seen reference to a video for the Perfecto Mis of 'World' online, but this seems more unlikely. I certainly have never seen such a video.

Anyone know for definite?

Hmmm - thinking about it, I may well have asked this question a few years ago, but I don't think there was a definitive answer.

You seem to be on a super-completist fan kick at the moment...

Y'know Spotnick/Nic who actually runs this forum (but we don't see much of around here any more)? I remember him posting a video of a Much Music or MTV presenter talking whilst the Perfecto mix of World + video were playing behind him. I think he posted it to prove that it existed, despite those at the record company saying it didn't. It may have been on the now-defunct old forum. And...that's all I can contribute to this conversation.

I always am! :-) To be fair though, this time, I'm not so much looking to complete my collection, as trying to establish whether I dreamt up seeing the video. Of course, if anyone has a copy, I wouldn't turn it down. ;-)

Anyway, it never harms to post - keep the board ticking along (it's been a little quiet of late).

That's good to know. Sounds like the 'World' one does exist then. Weird how people went to the trouble of making these things, only for them to hardly be shown.

PS It does look like I've asked the question before:

Oh there’s definitely a version of the World video with the Perfecto mix. Seen it loads of times. Can’t remember where though. Is it not on Item or something? Must have seen it on one of the music channels countless times in years gone by. Is it not on YouTube?

Not sure I’ve ever seen one for True Faith Perfecto though.

Thanks. So a Perfecto Video of World does exist?

What’s it look like? Is it just a rehash of the standard video (i.e. the one shot in Cannes)?

True Faith 94 perfecto video does exist, it was shown on MTV at the time. I might have a tape of it somewhere...not labelled up and easy to find, unfortunately.

Both seem to exist in the Warner tape list, if that helps. I haven't got transfers of either though.

Great. Thanks both. Proves I'm not imagining things.

indiearchivist - if you ever find the tape, please look me up.

The video is exactly the same (b&w Cannes thing).

Ah, OK. Ta. Presumably, the Perfecto 'Edit' then? Else they'd need to have lengthen the video to match the 7:36 of the full-length 'Mix'.

Yep as the poster further up stated, it's the same vid (Cannes) for World Perfecto and yes it's the edit.Maybe clipped the video or repeated a scene to fit to length? Can't recall how timing for Perfecto Edit compares with the edit for the original version used on the video.Maybe the Perfecto edit is shorter than the original video edit so possibly it starts closer to shore and doesn't start further out in the sea? I'm sure i've seen it quite a few times but where i can't remember.Must have been on some music channel on tv.

The official video is 4:22, and the music doesn't kick in for 21 seconds, until the lady waves with her scarf. It then loops the opening measure of the song several times, and goes into the radio edit, which is 3:41.

The Perfecto Edit is 4:05, so the video doesn't require any editing. They just swapped out the music.

Thanks both. That makes sense.

I’m guessing that the main reason it isn’t on YouTube is down to the fact that the automatic filters recognise the video as copyright and stops the upload. Bit of a shame.

I guess I’m not missing too much by not seeing it.

Would really like to see the True Faith one again. Just to confirm whether it does have any extra bits to it. I thought that there were extra ‘previously unseen’ bits but, as I said previously, maybe I’m confusing it with the joining bits on ‘best of’ vid.

You could make your own video.As the video is exactly the same just rip it from YouTube if you don't already have it, mute the original soundtrack and add in the Perfecto Edit at the required point.Hell, even a technological luddite like me could do that in Windows Movie Maker.I might have a go when i get time.

I clearly remember there was a Perfecto remix of True Faith shown once on MTV as I was into manically taping anything JD/NO related at the time as I had only gotten MTV (cable of any sort really) in '93. Of course I missed taping that particular version of the video. It had some extra scenes of the guys in costumes and something looking like filming outtakes. Definitely not identical to the standard video which I had on a copy's copy of Substance for a while. No NO members in any scenes. I think it was during a chart show or something and it was interrupted by some kind of a MTV novelty clip; however the repeat of the show when I had my video at the ready showed the usual TF. Hope this helps although it probably doesn't.

Yep. I could do that. Pretty good plan. I’m not sure I have the technical wizardry though. Also, I guess, if the video isn’t any different, there probably isn’t much point in me either trying to hunt it down or make a version. I guess I could just play the video with the sound turned down on the telly, with the CD turned up. [:d]

It really does help. Confirms to me what I always thought I remembered (i.e. additional footage featured). Makes me want to see it all the more now. [:(]

I only saw it once (I think it was late at night and I was probably drunk) and was shocked that there was a different video. Pity I didn’t have a tape loaded in the recorder at the time. Seem to think I only caught it halfway through anyway.

Well, thanks to a very kind soul, I've finally got my hands on the video for the Perfecto Mix of True Faith.

Wonderful to see it again after catching it only once on MTV 25+ years ago, late at night.

As I thought, it does include additional bits not in the original video (mainly of the dancers, but there might be some slight extra bits of Barney and co.).

So, altogether, there are four different videos:

  1. 1987 video (the standard vid) (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mfI1S0PKJR8);
  2. 1987 alternate video (on the 'International' bonus DVD) - includes additional live footage of Glastonbury;
  3. 1994 video - includes clips of some of New Order's other videos (World, The Perfect Kiss, Spooky, Bizarre Love Triangle etc.);
  4. 1994 Perfecto Mix video - includes several different clips of the dancers.

Plus, there's also those additional True Faith clips that were included on the '? (best of) New Order' VHS (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D0KJfhHVAxA&t=2s).

I won't bother uploading the Perfecto Mix anywhere, but if anyone wants to see this video (or, indeed, the 'alternate' or '94 videos), just drop me a PM.

Have you actually got 'Two Sheds', Fotz?

And if not, are you thinking of buying a second shed?

God, i've hardly even got one shed.Mine is falling down and needs to be demolished but there's problems with the fact it's got an asbestos roof and that needs to be got rid of in a particular way involving special plastic sheeting and cut into pieces .No, the Two Sheds thing comes from many many moons ago on NOOL and the fact i posted a picture of my shed back in about 2006 and then there was the whole thing with the Monty Python sketch with Arthur '2 sheds' Jackson.There used to be a good upload of the sketch on YouTube but now i can only find a phone camera filmed of the tv clip of it.

Yeah, I guessed it was a Monty Python thing. Hence me quizzing you much like the interviewer.

I seem to remember DigiMike mentioning your ‘Two Sheds’ at some point.

I can never resist a Python quote.

Yeah i did suspect you were playing the Monty Python fun but rather drunk last night i couldn't come up with a witty reply.Yeah Digi had a thing about sheds back in the day and even visited my house one day in about 2006 and had his photo taken of him holding the BM 12" in my shed.Still have the pic somewhere, will have to have a look for it and post on here.
