my vote goes to the "True Faith" video-CD. i tried several times to bid on eBay, but it became dead-expensive...

Don't really want any of them!

OK I can be a bit of a sad completist as far as getting every actual track in one form or another but I've never really understood the appeal of collecting the 'objects' - that is getting stuff with the same old tracks but in different packaging/format.

Do people set out to collect the stuff or is it something that creeps up on you, starting when you realise you happen to have accidentally acquired something rare?

hmmm, though I've just realised I have the factory 7" of temptation...

I haven't been able to find the Canadian 6 track World in Motion CDS.

How about ordering it?

The above link you suggested offers the US 4 track CDS from Warner Bros. I was referring to the 6 track Canadian release on Factory (distributed by London or Polydor, don't recall exactly) that included The Carabinieri & Subbuteo Dub mixes.

I have that too, do you need some old analogue equipment to play it? It won`t play in the Cd rom or DVD, why?

You have the answer in your reply.. the VCD is analogue, hence, will not play on a DVD (numeric) player.

You need the old laser disc reader.. you know, those with the 12" laser discs that you had to turn in the middle of the movie!! :D

Why are they so sought after if you can`t play them, unless you buy an antique player? Anyone got any

Compact Disc Video is the required system popular around the late eighties. Unfortunately it did not take off and was quickly blow out of the water by CD's and DVD's a couple of years after. You might need to acquire a photo disc player by Kodak (primarily for viewing photos) to play this item, which I also own and have never seen.

I've heard that on the B-side of the disk there is a full feature film about cats narrated by Steve Osbourne.

The WEA "Tutt Frutti" album is a bit interesting but in real terms is a bit of a mis-nomer as it utilises uncommissioned dj megamixes as opposed to officially licensed and master-supplied remixes...i.e. one of those "HotTracks" type style things that Rob Gretton loathed...in reality, this would only be worth something in the region of £30-£40 or as previoulsy repeated when this subject comes up; as much as any individual is prepared to pay. The rarest discs are probably BBC transcription discs - which are both illegal to sell and frequently faked by the way. 7" promos for "Thieves Like Us", or "Run" and fairly rare and the UK 7" "Heavy Rotation" promo for "Confusion" is actually VERY rare indeed though I'm sure I've seen it discussed here a few times. Managed to pick up a couple of copies at Palatine Road in 1989 along with a test pressing of "Transmission" no less!! There are 2 version of the 7" "Perfect Kiss" promo - both of which would be much sought after if indeed anyone really knew about them!

I picked up the 7" Run 2, Confusion heavy rotation and thieves like us singles you mention pretty cheaply recently, i suppose I was lucky. The Italian and NZ procession 7" singles seem to be very rare and the coloured Confusion 7".

Are those RT Deutschland "Confusion" promos genuinely rare? I seem to remember all manner of colours hitting the market in '84. You were lucky getting those "cheaply" - the "Heavy Rotation" promo is especially rare. There is an acetate/dub plate of "Confusion/I.O.U." that even had an advance Fac. number. How much would that be worth? More importantly, has anyone ever heard it? Doubtful! Andy Robinson didn't even know it existed! Throughout their history, New Order have produced a myriad of these rarities. I"m sure most bands have.

I`ve only been able to find the RT confusion purple, blue, lime green and green. apparently there are 9 different colours.

I thought the nine colours was for FAC 53 only. The GERMAN promos are not rare but lovely to put on the wall.If you play em put the B-side only.It is blank.Another was the STREETWISE promo which again is easy to find! Most of my collection is still relatively easy to get but some OTHERS who use this FORUM have some gems. Rocket MIck on the roof of HUNTSMAN's house trying to get into the loft.Highly dangerous cos he has smeared the FLOOR with PRINGLES(flavour unknown) as a NOISE detector. Now that is HI-TEC!:D

Okay theres 8 different colours for the confusion Rough trade jukebox 7", Im half way there. Theyll hang nicely next to the flying ducks.

The procession/egg 7" there are 9 colours, does the portugese blue/grey count as the blue UK 1/9 or is there a UK blue as well as the aqua blue? If so there are 12 p/s to the collection,

You mention that one.....well nine in BRITAIN -ish plus at least 3 others. But also remember that i am cheating in that my YELLOW one has NEW ORDER written at the top left hand corner which means this if FOREIGN to BRITAIN.This was put onto FRENCH released ones (not imports) as to define to the public who it was by.In the same way that BLT in CANADA had a picture in the middle of the group. And a sticker with what the single is.Very mundane or interesting.MURV i think that there could even be more than these. The BLUE i have just got and the AQUA are NOT the same. Cheers RM

The third track on the CDV is a rather tasty edit of the Pettibone remix. An exclusivity, if that's a genuine word.

The re-mix on the CD-V is the re-mix 12" released at the same time as the original True Faith 12" ... it has a white cover with multi-coloured leaves.

So not really exclusive, although the CD-V is difficult to get hold of.

Has PARADISE on it (that remix) and a great STICKER but not big enough to spoil the cover.Same cover and same number also!

That's right, your right. I remember now. Robert Racisc(?) mix ... the best (only) re-mix of Paradise.

Odd that they never included on the UK 12" but that's another story.

All TF items in my loft.

Nice.

Yes the 12" remix is there as track 1, but if you read what I actually said, track 3 is the exclusive edit version of the remix. It is of course mislabelled as "7-inch", but that's another story.

I believe the well-received Robert Racic Paradise remix was commissioned by Festival Australia for use on the domestic release, they were the local distributors at the time. Racic was a respected local dance pioneer of sorts (remixes: Severed Heads, A Certain Ratio) and I say was because he met a premature death in recent times. Would've only been mid-30's.

A small but worthy contribution to the New Order story.

RIP.

Interesting, I'll check this nugget of info. out this very evening ... after some pressing and important business I need to attend to ... but that's another story. A story far to powerful to relay just now.

Apologies for failing to recognise your initial point, I blame this on my tendancy to skip the real detail in favour of seeking a funny side to the story.

But,

that's another story.

Robert Racic also produced Austalian New Order wannabes Boxcar (think NO diluted with Information Society). They were a 4 piece that received quite a bit of club play in the U.S around 1990. 1st single, Freemason, was remixed by Arthur Baker!

Yeah...there is a compilation CD of Robert Racic's work released after his death...but I cant remember if Paradise is in there.... I think that that compilation CD is released to raised AIDS awareness, I think....Robert Racic being a major figure in our Aussie 'Pink Power' Dance Scene in the 80's.

Track 3 of the True Faith CDV is really good, I haven't listened to that mix for years.

It's so wonderful to be able to watch the video segment as well on my laserdisc player.

I'm really pissed off that I never saw the BM cdv, TF I picked up in HMV on 24th August 1990 and cost £5.99.

The Best Of presentation set looks like a really nice item.

The 3 most rare New Order vinyl releases are all of Blue Monday, the NZ 12" red, Jap 7" DJ promo and the Polish 7" dj promo... I`ve only ever seen the polish one on eBay it went for US$150 and Mr Sultan won it.

(....thinking that no one has noticed this French test CD pressing has THE PERFECT KISS full version...well at 8'01" maybe 'not-so-full' version but still better than the 4'49")

....I was still the high bidder at only US$10.50 - cheap!!....BUT ALAS!!! ...... in the last 5 seconds, I WAS SNIPED!

This one, its very limited @ 60 copies only.

7": PL 1988 (Tonpress DS-25-A) [promo] *** 5:05 Blue Monday I wished I`d bid for the one on eBay now, it was a little expensive... Although saying that, its cheap compared to some of those JD 7"ers, ie An Ideal for Living 225.GBP.

Its a beautiful collectors item, the cover is one of the best New Order releases and its a numbered limited edition.
